The first swim session will run 10:30 - 11:30 and the second session 11:30 - 12:30 (these are each an hour earlier than previously advised).
Apologies for the wrong information previously provided.
Tristars awards - your questions answered (26/10/15)What..?Our annual Tri-Stars Awards evening is a review of the highlights and celebration of some of the successes of the last year. With the main highlight for the athletes being the presentation of a number of Awards and Trophies.
When...? The Awards Night will be held on Wednesday 4th November at Durrell Wildlife Park. Please aim to arrive for 6pm for a prompt start at 6.15pm...we have a lot of success to celebrate so need to start on time!
Where...?The Awards Evening will be held in the lecture theater in Durrell, access is through the main entrance where there will be someone to direct you to the venue within the park. As the park is closed in the evening then the doors will be closed just before the awards presentation starts. Should you arrive late then please call Nicola on 07700 712710 for access.
Is there food...?Yes! We will be having a "Pot-Luck" cold buffet after the awards have been presented...and we need your help!
Do I need to bring anything...?We would really appreciate if you could bring along something for the buffet. I have included a list of suggestions below, but please ensure:
1. Please NO NUTS as we have a few children with serious nut allergies, if you are unsure then please ask!
2. Finger foods only...we will provide plates and napkins but not cutlery.
3. Please could you let Nicola Holmes know what you are planning to bring along...this will help us plan to fill in any gaps and also means we will not end up with ten plates of the same food! Please drop Nicola an email before Monday 2nd November to confirm if you can bring something along.
We will be providing teas/coffees and water/squash so no need to bring drinks.
How much does it cost...?Durrell have kindly let us have the venue at no charge (but remember to come and race the Durrell Duathlon next spring as this event is a fundraiser for the park) and we have decided to try out running the food as a "pot-luck" buffet this year so that we can continue to have this as a free event. So there will be no charge for this evening.
Questions...?If you still have any questions then please get in touch.
Thank you,
Nicola, Paula and Sarah

Upcoming training update
(21/10/15)Confirmation that the next swim training session will be on Saturday 31 October 11:30- 12:30 and 12:30 - 13:30 (usual swim groups). Training this weekend has to be cancelled due to a major swimming competition and the following weekend it is affected by half term changes to the Tigers timetable.
NovemberThere will be no swim or run training on 1st November (swim training moved to Saturday 31st), we will return to normal service on Sunday 8th with run and swim sessions.
On 15th November there is the island championship swimming from 9am to 12pm. I believe that these are 800m and 1500m events and we expect all academy athletes and several other older athletes to be taking part. Therefore we plan to condense into a single swim session 12:30-13:30 for those not doing the competition (mainly the younger group who normally swim at 11:30). The younger group will do a run session at 11:30 (i.e. they will do run/swim rather than swim/run) and we may do an easy recovery run for those who have competed in the morning at 12:30 (possibly a group ride for the TS3 cycling group).
22nd November Tigers have a gala at Haute Vallee so it will not be available at the usual time that day, the time and/or day of training will be changed (details to be confirmed).
29th November we have a duathlon at Les Quennevais in the morning and therefore there will be no run training, only swim training on that date at the usual times.

Swimming changes next two weeks (19/10/15)Due to a major swimming gala taking place at the weekend (and it being during half term break) there will be no Tristars swimming on Sunday 25th October. We are also awaiting confirmation from Tigers about their swim plans during half term, it looks like the swim session on Sunday 1st November may be moved forward to Saturday 31st - this will be confirmed as soon as we have the information.
Save the date!
(08/10/15)The date for our annual prizegiving event has been confirmed as Wednesday 4th November and once again we are lucky to have been provided with a venue by Durrell. Further details will be confirmed in the coming weeks.

Fun night
(24/09/15)Sorry that the time wasn't stated clearly before - fun night tonight at Havre des Pas is 6pm to 7pm. Therain is due to stop and the forecast says sunshine for us this evening.
Obviously parking is limited so the best options are likely to be Dicq Slip (tide is falling), Cleveland Road, Green Street or Snow Hill.
Main event race results
(21/09/15)Now on their third version - hopefully all errors have now been corrected (thank goodness for the backup chip timing to keep us right!). If anything still looks wrong please email me and I will do my best to find and fix what I can
dave@juniorjerseytri.com.
Training to the end of September (20/09/15)We have the final two training sessions of the summer season left. On Thursday 24th we have our open water fun night at Havre des Pas open air pool. Please bring along any suitable toys/games/inflatables. There will be no run training to follow (so also bring warm clothes to wrap up after).
On Sunday 27th we have normal swim/run sessions (11:30-12:30 and 12:30 - 13:30). Please arrive 11:15 in time to register/change.
During the month of October we will have a break from training except for the pool swim sessions which continue through the month at the usual time (unless we are advised of any change). Look out for details of when the winter run training resumes (normally early November) and for plans for our end of season prize-giving.
Triathlon results
(20/09/15)...are now on the
Results page. Well done to all those who took part. A particularly big thanks to the army of volunteer marshals including coaches, parents and some senior athletes who did a great job keeping everyone safe. Details of the winter duathlon series will be announced here as soon as the calendar is fixed.
A reminder of club specific race rules (17/09/15)There are a couple of rules which Jersey Tristars imposes on our races which go beyond the BTF rules and have applied to all races in the last year. As a reminder:
(1)
Tristars Start competitors (born 2007) are not allowed to race on road/racer bikes. Bikes should be standard mountain bikes, bmx or other 'generic' childrens bikes. This rules is designed to level the playing field for new members and avoid the need for parents to be buying specialist equipment at such a young age. For the same reason other specialist equipment such as slick tyres etc are not allowed.
(2) Whilst the official Tristars Start age group is for competitors born in 2007 the club has historically allowed some younger children to take part. As part of the current process of reviewing all risk assessments this is under review. In the meantime we
will allow children born after 2007 to race where parents are comfortable that they are able to do so and with the caveat that a parent (or other adult guardian) must be in the water during the swim section to keep an eye on them to reduce the risk.
(3)
For all age groups except Tristars Start we operate gear restrictions in line with
BTF/British Cycling guidlines. If your gears remain restricted from previous triathlon or JCAYA racing then they should be fine, if a bike has not been restricted before or has been unrestricted you will need to speak to a coach at sign on to have the bike restricted. Competitors bikes can be selected at random to check restrictions and the leading finishers' bikes will be rechecked. If you are unsure please speak to a coach as we don't want anyone to be disqualified due to a mistake with gears.
(4) All competitors in local Tristars events are required to wear a wetsuit during the swim section (i.e. wetsuits are not optional). Again this is for competitor safety.
Lost property from Sunday (and earlier) (15/09/15)We have an ever growing pile of lost property, with a significant growth after Sunday's event at Haute Vallee. Della currently has most of this and will bring to training on Thursday. Items left in the pool changing rooms on Sunday were left at the pool and may be in the lost property box there (through the double doors, just outside the office by the recycling bins). There is too much to list so please have a check on Thursday to see if anything there belongs to you.
Race start time - slight error
(14/09/15)Apologies that due to a slight miscommunication the start time shown previously for Saturday's race was wrong. The Tristars Start race will begin at 17:45 and Tristars 1 at 18:00. Please be signed on by 17:30.
I can also confirm that a decision has been taken not to put Sunday's run training sessions back on so
training on Sunday 20th will be pool swim sessions only. After a busy weekend this week and Saturday's race the coaches need some time off!
In the meantime we still have open water swim training on Thursday at St Catherines, in the water at 6pm followed by a run to warm up (looking at the weather forecast the run will probably not be any drier than the swim!).
Club open day
(11/09/15)What a great Day!!!
Just a quick note to say thank you all so much for your help today. Without everyone's help we simply couldn't carry off a day like today.
It was a resounding success and we have already had a lot of positive feedback from parents and children.
We are very fortunate in our club that we have so many willing volunteers and parents and I hope you all enjoy it as much as I do.
Onwards and upwards - Main Event next week!
Yours in sport,
Fintan

Open day on Sunday
(09/09/15)There will be training, activities and workshops on from 11am until 4pm. Special guests will be taking some of these sessions. We would like club members to arrive at 10.30am in order to receive a briefing from coaches before potential new members arrive. Please register as soon as you arrive (in the top car-park) with Debbie, Jill and Emma and claim your new Aztec Jersey Tristars hoodie (Free hoodie to all children who confirm that they will be becoming members for 2015/2016 season). Parents will need to be with you to sign in.
We hope that you can come for the whole day but if you're unable to, please come and go as you want. For those staying , there will be cakes on sale but do bring a picnic as we'll be having a half hour break for lunch.
Please come representing your club in shorts and T-shirt Tristar kit or your trisuit, where possible. Remember swim kit and bike (and helmet) for transition training. All those who have loan bikes from the club MUST bring them on the day and register them with Debbie at the registration desk. These bikes will be used in the transition area for the duration of the day. You can then take them home but please be aware that they will be recalled at the end of the season (October 2015).
For those of you 12 and under, please ensure a parent stays with you.
PLEASE REMEMBER CAKES FOR CAKE SALE!!!
No training tomorrow, Battle of Britain Day.
Training this week
(08/09/15)There is no training this Thursday evening - enjoy the Battle of Britain Air Display!
Sunday is the Tristars open day at Haute Vallee and also the Academy trials day for athletes aged 13 and over (details here). Inter Regional Championships
(08/09/15)Peter, Jack and Lily competed at the British Inter Regional Championships in the Tristars 3 category on Sunday, with Jersey represented for the first time in this event. Peter finished in 28th and Jack just behind in 31st, with Lily 34th in the girls' race.
A full report can be found by clicking here, and a link to race reports can be found on the
BTF website.
Clarification of swim/run groups (31/08/15)There has been some confusion about groups for Sunday training. To clarify we have started by splitting the groups based on 2016 age groups which are as follows:
Tristars Start - born in 2008 or later
Tristars 1 - born in 2006 or 2007
Tristars 2 - born in 2004 or 2005
Tristars 3 - born in 2002 or 2003
Youth - born in 2000 or 2001
Swim group 1 is made up of Tristars Start and Tristars1 with the other age groups making up swim group 2. Please note that on the advice of the swim coaches (in discussion with run coaches) we will make some moves to ensure that everyone is in the right group based on ability so there may be a handful of athletes out of sync with the above.
If you haven't signed up for Sunday swim sessions you can still take part in the appropriate run session. If you have signed up please ensure that forms and standing orders are set up asap.
If you would like to find out about the pool swim sessions please email
membership@juniorjerseytri.com.
Confirmation of training Saturday (31/08/15)We can confirm that as well as swim training on Saturday 5th August we will also be holding run training. As well as being on the wrong day sessions are slightly shorter than normal so please arrive sharp to get the most out of it. Little group will swim 11:30 to 12:15 then run 12:15 to 13:00. The big group will run then swim.
In the meantime we will also have an open water swim session followed by a run at St Catherines with the swim starting at 6pm on Thursday.

Tristars Cake Sale
(19/08/15)Save the date...the Great TriStars Cake SaleWe will be holding a cake sale on Sunday 13th September as part of the Triathlon Open Day at Haute Vallee and in order to make this a success we need you to get on your aprons and bake up some treats to bring along on the day.
If baking is not your thing then we will need help on the day with setting up and selling the cakes along with selling teas and coffees, so if you would like to help then please let us know.
It would be really helpful for us to know if you are planning to bake so we will send out a little reminder nearer the time.
Thanks,
Nicola, Paula and Sarah
Aquathlon results
(14/08/15)Results from yesterday's fun aquathlon at Ouisane can now be found by following the links below. Well done to everyone and to Richard Worth for organising on what was a nice new venue for us.
Short race results
Long race results
Next aquathlon is back at St Catherines next Thursday with the short junior race going off at 6pm.
Lost property and race on Sunday (10/08/15)A number of items of lost property were picked up last Thursday at the aquathlon. Richard Whitewood has these so if you left anything behind please check with him this Thursday at Ouisane.
On Sunday there is a senior club event which is
open to juniors aged 11 and up. This is a relay race in which each of three team members completes a triathlon before handing onto the second team member. This is a relay race in which each member completes the swim in turn, then each member completes the cycle and finally each member completes a run (so for each person it's a triathlon with a rest in between each element). Distances are 250m swim, 6km cycle and 1.6km run. Please note that the cycle will be on the open roads so parents should be comfortable with their child doing this (or you can ride alongside as long as they don't draft you!). Parental consent will be required at sign-on. You will need to form a team in advance before you register. Mixed junior/senior teams are allowed.
Further details are on the
senior website or speak to Richard or Philippa Worth.
Training update
(08/08/15)For those who join the (irregular) Sunday morning bike group there is a cycle ride tomorrow morning departing Haute Vallee from 10:30am (please arrive before 10:30 or the group may leave without you!).
For everyone else there is normal Sunday run training, meet at 10:30 for 10:45 start. There is no pool swim training tomorrow.
This Thursday evening (13th) the fun aquathlon is at Ouisane. Please note that for anyone travelling from the the East that this is Battle of Flowers day so roads will be closed and traffic on minor roads may be congested.
Thursday evening sessions
(26/07/15)The final 'normal' Thursday night swim and run session is this Thursday.
During August Thursday evenings will be fun aquathlon races as previously stated St Catherines (6th and 20th August) or Ouisane (13th an 27th August).
The organisers are planning to use chip-timing for these if possible, this means that they need to get everyone signed on in advance to set up the system. They have therefore asked that, where possible, children
sign-on as close to 5:30 as possible so that they can try to get the racing started as close to 6pm as possible.
Pool swim training
(26/07/15)Please note that this Sunday will be the last swimming session at Haute Vallee due to pool maintenance and Nathan travelling to Nationals and Youth Commonwealth Games. The normal swimming sessions will resume in the first weekend in September.
Please note however, that whilst there definitely will be no swimming on 2 and 9 August, there may be ad hoc sessions offered by Nathan and I will advise of such sessions when known.
Most of you will be aware that "triathlon" training stops for the month of October every year but please note that the swimming sessions at Haute Vallee will continue throughout October under Nathan's guidance.
Result from Castle Howard
(26/07/15)Freddie Lucas was in fine form at the weekend racing in the latest round of the Castle Series at Castle Howard in England taking 2nd place in the 8-10 years age category -
results here. Earlier in the season Adam Kennedy took a third place in that same age group at Lough Cutra and we have a number of athletes going over to race at the French round at Chantilly in August.
Training in August
(22/07/15)As was done last year the month of August will see Thursday night swim/run training replaced with a series of four fun aquathlon races (swim/run). These will take place alongside an adult race series on the same nights and at the same venues. For this year there will be two races at St Catherines (6th and 20th August) and two races at Ouisane (13th an 27th August).
There will be two junior race distances: 100m/1km and 300m/2km. The coaches will let you know which distance you will be doing each week. Please remember that these are informal fun races and should be used as training/practice (they will not count towards the Jacksons triathlon series).
The junior race start times are provisionally 6pm for both venues.
Aquathlon results
(22/07/15)Results from the Aquathlon which was run as part of the Jersey Triathlon at the weekend can be found at
http://www.jersey-triathlon.com/news/race-results. Final results in the usual format will be placed on the Results page of this website when I get a chance!

Congratulations to Peter Holmes, Jack Kennedy and Lily McGarry who have all qualified to race at the

For Eton athletes (& parents)
(08/07/15)If someone is missing a watch after being at Eton Fiona Atkinson has one which was left on the grass around our 'area' on Sunday.
In order for the club to organise ESC claim payments to athletes can everyone please provide a copy of travel receipt (Condor or airline as appropriate) to Simon Roderick please. Rather than emailing can you please provide a hard copy to Simon please.
Lots of news
(06/07/15)There is so much to catch up on this Monday morning that I can't even come up with a decent article headline! Please do read all the way to the bottom where you will find the latest training update and information on the next local race.
Feedback from IGThe majority of the Island Games athletes returned home over the weekend, the club has received some really positive feedback from several of the islands:
"Thanks for a great mini tri and fantastic Jersey IG triathlon. Our team loved the main triathlon..and also the friendship and comoraderie of all Jersey triathletes in making the games memorable to them. Your set up on the island for young children is second to none and envied by many of the other island triathletes, including ourselves. On behalf of the Isle of Wight IG triathlon team, we thank you all.""Just wanted to pass on my thanks and congratulations to all involved in the Island Games Triathlon for an outstanding effort and thoroughly enjoyable event. The single 40km bike loop was controlled and marshalled superbly, the support on the bike and run course was epic and the kids lining the steps from the beach a master class."Results from relay triathlonFor those who took part in the relay triathlon with the Island Games athletes last week a copy of the results can be found by
clicking here.
Results from Eton SupertriNineteen Jersey Tristars raced at Eton this weekend with great performances from all of them in what is probably the highest quality field in the UK for Tristars.
Results can be found by clicking here - a race report will follow soon.

Island Games 2015
(28/06/15)Well done to all Jersey's triathletes at the Island Games Triathlon today, particularly coach Della Roderick who was part of the gold medal winning ladies team. Also well done for all the hard work from the children in all of the roles we were asked to help with today. It was hot in those tracksuits and you all did very well standing still and helping out on a very long and hot day. You all looked great and were a great advert for our club.
Further training update!
(22/06/15)
Since to the previous posting there are a further two changes to announce:
- Because of the recent swim cancellations Nathan has organised an extra pool swim training session on Saturday 27th at Haute Vallee from 12pm to 1pm.
- The open water swim session on Thursday 2nd July is cancelled. This is the evening of the Island Games Town Criterium cycle race.
You should by now have had the email about details fo junior involvement on the day of the Island Games. There is a role for all juniors to play (tracksuits required) but for those individual named athletes who have been asked to be medal bearers and helping on the run course please can you confirm attendance by replying to the email so that we know if we need any substitutes.

Our aim is to run training to the normal schedule wherever possible, however this is subject to availability of coaches and facilities and these are impacted by Island Games, the Jersey Triathlon and a group of athletes and coaches racing in Eton over the next few weeks. Details for August will be posted here when they are finalised.
Tristars gear restrictions
(19/06/15)Our club agreed to bring in restricted gears for junior participants ahead of the British Triathlon Federation's introduction due for 2015. The BTF later delayed the introduction to 2016 with only certain test events allocated for 2015 but we have decided to stick with the restrictions as overall they remain beneficial for training (though for racing off-island some athletes may still choose to unrestrict).
The following information has been produced by the BTF to explain not only why restricted gears are a good idea but also to help understand what it means and how it is achieved.
We do not currently apply restrictions to Tristars Start as we have a policy for local races of not allowing racing bikes to be used. This policy was implemented to allow all young athletes to take part on a level playing field at this age without the need to invest in expensive equipment.
Island Games Tristars involvement (18/06/15)The Island Games is fast approaching. The Triathlon takes place on the day following the opening ceremony from Jardins de la Mare from 4pm. We have been asked to get involve and their will be roles for the children to get involved with. More details nearer the time but please be prepared to come along wearing club tracksuits to get involved. You won't get many chances to watch international level triathlon competition this close to home.
Also, during Island Games week on Wednesday 1st July the club is organising an event for the visiting athletes who are still here after their triathlon competition. The format of this will be a relay race with mixed senior/junior teams. Juniors will complete a shorter distance in their triathlon than seniors. Again full details to be confirmed (including minimum age). This will be at St Catherines from around 6pm on Wednesday 1st July.
Inter Regional Championships
(17/06/15)Please note that for those of you competing at Eton in the Tristars 2 or Tristars 3 age groups, should you finish in the Top 15 in your event, you will automatically qualify to represent Jersey at the Inter Regional Championships at Mallory Park, Nottingham on 6 September.
The Inter Regional Championships is a team event where the best triathletes from the various triathlon regions of Great Britain compete against each other. Whilst not considered large enough to be a region in its own right, Jersey is permitted by the BTF to send athletes to this event as wild cards should they achieve a top 15 result at Eton. This event attracts the top triathletes in the UK and should you qualify, will allow you to test yourself against the best.
The link to this event is as follows:
http://www.britishtriathlon.org/u20festival/ircPlease note that any triathlete who qualifies for and races at this event will receive the usual travel subsidy from the club as well as a further subsidy to aid the cost of attending this event.
Training schedule
(16/06/15)Apologies for the late cancellation of swim training on Sunday but this was unfortunately out of our control. Hopefully you all received the text message notice of the cancellation. If you are not on the text messaging service but would like to be added please give your mobile number to Debbie Kennedy.
Training is back to normal this week, open water swim training followed by a run on Thursday at 5:45 (barring a repeat of last week's lightning). Sunday morning run and swim sessions at Haute Vallee.
Portsmouth race trip
(16/06/15) Well done to all 17 Tristars who raced at the weekend in Portsmouth, in particular our podium stars Luke Holmes (1st TS1), Freddie Lucas (3rd TS1), Elizabeth Atkinson (2nd TS1 girl) Thomas Atkinson (3rd TS2 boy) and Peter Holmes (2nd TS3). Race results can be found
on the following website.A full race report can be found by clicking here.
Eton Supertri junior races
(12/06/15)We are not organising group travel to Eton on 4th July but a large number of individuals are travelling both by ferry and by air. This is one of the major UK junior races and a good opportunity to race against a large high quality field of juniors. Race entries are open up until 29th June.
If anyone else is thinking of travelling please contact Dave who can provide information on travel and accommodation arrangements for those already booked up. There are a couple of vans travelling over on the Friday before the races which may have space to take bikes for anyone wanting to fly. Whilst there is no group arrangement this event will be eligible for a club subsidy towards the travel costs (receipts required).
Event website. No run training this Sunday
(09/06/15)Please note that due to the number of athletes and coaches travelling to the Portsmouth triathlon at the weekend there will be
no run training at Haute Vallee on Sunday 14th June. Swim training for those signed up will go ahead as usual from 12:00 to 13:00.
Please also be warned in advance that due to the Island Games there will be
no run or swim training on Sunday 28th June. The Island Games triathlon will take place that afternoon with the Men setting off first at 16:15. We have been asked by the event organisers for juniors to be involved in the event in a variety of roles. Further information on this will be provided in the coming weeks.
LLR Charity Triathlon
(06/06/15)What a great day of junior triathlon racing, over 280 entrants took part in today's charity fun kids triathlon at Les Quennevais. With over £7,000 raised for the charity so far it was great for Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research as well as being a great showpiece for the sport of triathlon.
Well done to everyone who took part and thanks to the many helpers in what is a much more complex event to organise than most of our junior races.
Racing tip - race number belt
(03/06/15)
Over the years the Junior races in Jersey have not used printed race numbers (except for duathlons), rather we have relied on numbers written onto hands/arms. This was also the case at the race in Guernsey. However, for those racing away at Portsmouth, Eton or other off-island races you will find that you are expected to wear a printed race number during the cycle and run sections. The charity triathlon on Saturday will also be using race numbers and this adds an extra headache for those wearing trisuits because it is a non-wetsuit swim.
As numbers in the club have grown and the job for the timekeepers has become increasingly difficult we will probably start using printed race numbers for local junior triathlons at some point in the future.
For anyone racing in a trisuit it is possible to pin a number directly onto this when wearing under a wetsuit (this will not work for a pool swim, such as the charity triathlon this weekend) but ideally you should avoid pinning onto trisuit fabric. For this reason the best solution is a triathlon race belt. This consists of a loop of elastic with a clip at each end. The number is pinned or otherwise attached to the belt and this is left in transition. It is simple and quick to pick up the belt and clip it around your waist after the swim.
These can be purchased online from a range of triathlon retailers for around £5- £10 (I'm not aware if any of the local sports shops sell these?). If buying one make sure it is either a junior size or can be adjusted to a small enough waist size.
An alternative is to make your own; all you need is a suitable length (about waist measurement plus an inch) of 1" wide elastic and two inches of velcro which you stitch to the elastic to fasten the ends together - all available from your local haberdashery.
Open water swim training
(01/06/15)Open water swim training resumes for the summer on
Thursday 11th June. During June training will be on Thursday from 5:45 - 6:45 at the Victoria Marine Lake (West Park). Swim training will be followed by a short run session to warm up. Meet on the stepped concrete sea wall by Jardins de la Mare (over the wall from Le Fregate cafe).
For those doing Portsmouth triathlon this month there will be another extra bonus session this Thursday 4th June. Unfortunately this can't be opened up to the whole club due to the number of coaches - sorry to those who aren't in this group but it seems sensible to allocate this way to make sure those racing in the sea at Portsmouth have plenty of opportunity to prepare themselves.
Anyone not racing at Portsmouth who wants to join the session is welcome if they can bring a parent along who is able to come in and provide extra adult supervision in the water!Triathlon races - Saturday and Sunday! (01/06/15)
There are
two triathlon races relevant to Junior athletes this weekend.
Fun kids triathlon (Saturday)Saturday afternoon is the annual Leukaemia and Lymphoma Charity triathlon which is for children in school years 2 to 8 at Les Quennevais. This is a fun junior triathlon so a perfect opportunity to bring along your friends from school, more than 200 Jersey schoolchildren are expected to take part. Full details and online entry at
www.jerseykidstriathlon.com. Online entries close before the end of the week, I believe that entry on the day will be more expensive as it includes a minimum sponsorship/donation to the charity on top of the normal entry fee. Please support this fun event which is a great showcase for our sport.
Introductory triathlon (Sunday)On Sunday morning there is adult racing at St Catherines including the annual introductory triathlon. The organisers have kindly invited
juniors from Tristars 2 and Tristars 3 to race with the introductory adult race which consists of a 250m swim, 6km cycle and 1.6km run. Note that the cycle is on open roads and therefore parents need to consider carefully if their child is capable of taking part (if necessary a parent is welcome to ride alongside a junior athlete to keep them safe). Full details on the senior website at
http://jerseytriclub.com/?p=1133Swim practice for Portsmouth group (26/05/15)In order for the kids racing at Portsmouth to get some extra practice in the sea ahead of the race, which is now less than 3 weeks away, we are planning a sea swim session on Thursday 28th May at 17:30. This will be in the marine lake at West Park – wetsuits compulsory. The tide will be just above the lake wall at 17:30.
As usual we should have the kayak for extra water safety cover, but we are not sure yet if we have a paddler for it – if any parents would be willing to help out that would be useful.
We are discussion about starting up regular Thursday sessions for the summer but for this week we want to focus only on those athletes who need the practice ahead of Portsmouth (if any siblings want to paddle or swim under parental supervision that’s ok too).
Lough Cutra (Castle Series)
(24/05/15)Well done to Adam Kennedy on a great fourth place in the 8-10 age group at the first round of the Castle Triathlon Series in Ireland today in a field of 63.
Results here. Fintan also successfully completed another Olympic distance triathlon today too.
Training as normal over half term - see you on Sunday.
Guernsey race results
(19/05/15)
The results as provided by Guernsey Tri Club can be found by clicking here. I believe that the Tristars Start results are incorrect and I have queried this with the organisers but these are as provided to me.
Guernsey trip report
(17/05/15)
12 members of Jersey Tristars made the trip over to Guernsey this weekend to take on Guernsey's best in the first of their Granite Kids triathlon series.
In the Tristars Start age category Libby Hart led the way as first girl home and second overall (Libby was racing when the above photo was taken which is why she is the only one not there).
The Tristars 1 category needed two waves for all of the athletes. In the first wave Freddie Lucas led home ahead of Charlie Hart. Elizabeth Atkinson came out on top in a sprint finish as first girl in her wave. Meanwhile in the second heat it was a battle between Luke Holmes and Casper Whitewood with Luke managing to hold onto his lead off the bike and through the run course. Hannah Worth was first girl in the second wave. With Jersey athletes first boy and girl in each wave we know we have both category winners but await final results to find out who the winners are!
In Tristars 2 Isaac Dodds led Thomas Atkinson out of the pool but the pair ended up neck and neck through the bike and second transition. On the second lap of the run they were racing stride for stride, during which time they made a pact to cross the line together which made for a really entertaining race. Luke Holmes was third boy home in this category whilst Elisha Hiller overcame her struggles on the bike to make a strong finish finishing as second girl not far behind her Guernsey competitor.
The coaches and parents all agreed that the behaviour and performance of all 12 athletes was exemplary and we were all proud to be part of Jersey Tristars. We look forward to hosting our friends from Guernsey over here and future trips to Guernsey after this great weekend.
Weekend racing round-up
(11/05/15)Well done to all of those who raced in Rennes on Sunday. Some great junior results including 6th overall in the short race for Peter Holmes and 1st and 2nd in the ladies short race for Lily McGarry and Adele Maher. Coaches, parents and other club members also did well in the afternoon's Olympic distance event.
Full results can be found by following this link.
Also well done to all of those who took part in the Advisa cross country relays on Sunday afternoon. We had two complete tristars teams proudly showing off their Tristars kit.
Training and events this weekend (06/05/15)A reminder that training on Sunday 10th May is different due to the Advisa Cross Country Relay races being on that afternoon. For those who do the swim session this will now run from 10am to 11am. For those who don't swim there will be a run session on
at the same time (no-one can do both, swimmers are expected to attend the swim session).
Regarding the relay races in the afternoon, please see the message from Angela Raimbault:
The Relays will take place on SUNDAY, 10 May at Le Braye. All races will start at 1:15pm and check in opens from 12:30pm.Pre-registration is required for the youngest two age groups, under 9 and under 11, using the attached entry form. The organisers will arrange mixed teams for the older two categories (under 13 and under 15) on race day. Please let me know if you are unable to complete a full team or have a runner who wishes to join a team and I will try to match up spaces with runners. Finally, good luck to all Tristars travelling to Rennes this weekend - hopefully the lake is nice and warm and you all have a great race.
Triathlon results
(01/05/15)Race results from this evening's triathlon are now available on the
Results Page. Report to follow. Well done to everyone involved in putting on another fantastic event with a great turnout of athletes and parents. A special thanks also to Paul and Rachel at Cafe des Sports for the after race buffet - the food was great and everyone seemed to have a great time so we may try to repeat this event at the end of the summer.
Training is as normal this Sunday (except for some of the Tristars 3 who have a cycle session starting at 10:15, Fintan will have spoken to you if you are in that group). Remember that the following Sunday there are the Advisa cross country relay races and so adjusted training times will apply (see article below).
Race information for next week
(24/04/15)The race information guide for next week's triathlon at Les Quennevais can be found by clicking here(you can also access this through the
Events Page).
Training as normal this Sunday for those not doing Island Champs swimming.
First triathlon next Friday
(22/04/15)The first triathlon of the year takes place next Friday evening at Les Quennevais with the first swim wave starting at 5pm. Please sign-on at 16:30. Any parents who are able to be there from 16:00 to help set up would be a great help as we obviously have some of the usual coaching and support crew who are restricted by being at work so any extra help would be great. Race details are on the
Events page.
Following the triathlon there will be a club meal, buffet style, at Café des Sports.
Adults £7
Kids £5
Buffet will include:
Chilli (including a veggie option); Pasta Bolognaise; Various pizzas; Chicken teddies; Sausages; Chips; Rice
Please let me
Debbie Kennedy know by 28 April if you would like to attend and the number of adults/kids so that we can let the café know the numbers.
10th May training arrangements (20/04/15)Many of you will have noticed that the rescheduled Advisa cross country relay races and presentations are on Sunday 10th May and would cause a clash with our swim training (for those not already away racing in Rennes). For that reason we have rescheduled
swim training on 10th May to run from 10am to 11am. For those who do not do the swim session (mainly the younger ones) we have also reschedules the run session which will now take place at Haute Vallee also 10am to 11am (i.e. you can't do both sessions!).
Apologies if this doesn't work well for you, but with the running race taking place and a group of athletes and coaches away racing in Rennes this seems to be the best arrangement all round. Remember that any team of four Tristars members taking part in the Advisa relay races all racing in club kit will win an extra prize from us!
Aquathlon results
(19/04/15)Results and race report from today's aquathlon can now be found on the
Results page. It seems that every race sets another record at the moment with today being no exception with 47 starters and five age category races. We also raised a fantastic amount of almost £80 for club funds from the cake sale and reports suggest club kit was flying off the shelves too.
Results are provisional, we had some problems with the swim splits for Tristars Start but hopefully all of the finish times/positions are correct. Do let me know if you spot any errors. Note that swim times include the pool exit and run to transition.
It was the sort of day which makes us all proud to be part of Jersey Tristars - well done to all competitors and thanks to the parents, marshals, timekeepers, cake-bakers and cake-eaters for your support.
Further aquathlon information
(14/04/15)A detailed pdf with information on the aquathlon is now available on the Events page.
In addition to tea, coffee and cakes we'll have all remaining kit for this season on sale before and during the Aquathlon on Sunday if anyone needs anything or needs bigger sizes (
because kit is subsidised it is only for club members to buy).
T-shirts/ shorts £10 a set
Track suits £20
Tri suits £50 (only 4 left!)
Sunday training and race (and cakes) (13/04/15)Please remember we are doing transition practice on Sunday so bikes/helmet/shoes etc required for this. Please also make sure that you are at training in plenty of time as we need get through the session on time to have a quick turnaround for the aquathlon at 12pm.
Aquathlon distances are now available on the
Events page and we are preparing some more detailed race information to add to the website this week. The course and transition will be well market out and there will be a race briefing. Parents will be required to sign in athletes and also to help marshal please.
We are also holding a cake sale to raise a few pennies for club funds. Please either bake something or bring some money to buy a cake (or even do both) if you can.
Late notice of swimming change (10/04/15)Unfortunately we have just been informed that the States of Jersey are carrying out essential maintenance on the pool at Haute Vallee over the weekend and the pool will not be available for our swim session on Sunday.
Nathan has kindly offered to take an extra junior triathlon session on Monday evening from 6pm to 7pm.
Apologies for the change and late notice but as you will understand this is entirely outside of our control.
Bits and pieces
(07/04/15)The results page has been updated with a slightly revised set of Durrell results and I've also fixed a number of broken links to the duathlon series results so hopefully all is now working properly again.
A reminder that training is back on this Sunday all at the usual times at Haute Vallee for run and swim training. The planned start of cycle training for Tristars 3 has been put back due to other events at the weekend, an updated start date and further information will be provided shortly.
Also, a reminder that the Spartans Advisa XC series finale takes place on Saturday 18th April along with the presentation of overall series prizes. Relay teams of four take part in the usual age groups (school years 3&4, years 5&6 and years 7&8).
Any team entering with four runners from Jersey Tristars who all race in club kit will be rewarded with an extra prize from the club!Sunday swim sessions - full
(24/03/15)I have been told to let you know that we have reached full capacity for the Sunday swim sessions and therefore no more athletes can be admitted. We have a number joining the queue either as they are new members or have turned 7. We are hoping that in the Autumn term we will be able to add an additional swim session to accommodate the demand.
Training update for the next few weeks (24/03/15)There will be no run or swim training on Easter Sunday (5th April).
Training is on this weekend as normal (29th March) - but remember that the clocks go forward! As we are short of coaches due to the holidays it might be helpful if a few parents could be available to assist depending on how many athletes we have at run training. Please speak to Fintan on the morning if you are able to help out.
Training returns again on Sunday 12th April. We are planning to start up a cycle session from that date for older riders - details will be posted here over the next couple of weeks. Also remember 19th April will be transition work (bikes, cycle shoes and helmets required) and then at 12pm an aquathlon open to all (not just those signed up for the swim sessions).
Durrell Duathlon results
(22/03/15)Well done who all who took part in this morning's races as part of the Durrell Duathlon. About £130 was raised from the junior races alone which all goes straight to Durrell. The race results and report can now be found on the
Results Page. There were lots of great performances from club members, first timers and of course our visitors from France who took home 2 out of the 4 category wins!
This weekend and future races
(17/03/15)Because of the Durrell Duathlon this weekend (see below for full details) there will be no run training at Haute Vallee on Sunday morning. Swim training will be on as normal.
Other dates for you diary coming up (further details nearer the time):
Sunday 19th April - We will be holding an aquathlon (swim/run) at Haute Vallee instead of the normal swim session at 12pm. This will be open to all members, not just those signed up for swim sessions.
Sunday 19th April - It's not a typo! Also on this date in place of run training we will be doing transition practice which means you will need to bring bikes, helmets and cycle shoes along. This will also save your legs for the aquathlon!
Friday 1st May - The first race in the Jacksons Triathlon series will take place on this Friday evening starting at 5pm. This is because we want to have a race before our athletes travel away to race in Guernsey and Rennes in May and this was the only date/time we could get the pool and track booked.
Durrell Duathlon race details
(17/03/15)The Durrell Duathlon takes place this Sunday (22nd March) One again we have been invited to include a junior program on the morning alongside the senior race.
This year as well as the two younger age groups (school years 2 – 6) we will also be running a junior event for anyone aged 11+. Note that if you are in school year 6 and already aged 11 you will have the choice of racing in either the younger (off road) or older (on road) category. Please see below important notes:
Age group 11+This age group will be riding on the road around the park. The road is well marshalled and is designed so that there are no right turns to negotiate. We are also planning for a coach to be riding on the course to keep an eye on everyone. However, please note that parental consent will be required and you should ensure that your child is comfortable riding on the road and knows the basics (such as riding on the left and giving way at junctions).
This race takes place during the senior race – to get the timings to work we must start the event 15 minutes after the senior race starts so please ensure you are ready to go!
The race will consist of a 1.6km run which will go into the wildlife park (2 laps of an out-and-back course). The cycle is two 2.5km loops around the park (the course is the same as the adult run course – see
maps on the senior website) and a final 800m run (1 lap out-and-back inside the park.
The entry fee consists of a £5 donation to Durrell. Registration is inside the cafe from 6:45!!
Younger categories (off road cycle)These categories will race after the completion of the senior event and will be the same format as last year. Note that if racing in these categories the cycle is around the rough tracks of the car park and these are not suitable for road bikes. Care needs to be taken on the uneven surface.
Registration is from 8:30am with an estimated race start around 9:30. Note that if arriving later for this race the adult race will be in progress so please take care around the park where there will be runners and cyclists.
The first category is for those in school years 2 & 3 and distances are approximately 300m run (2 laps), 900m cycle (3 laps) and 300m run (2 laps).
Next up will be for children in years 4, 5 & 6 who will race over 450m/1500m/450m (3 laps, 5 laps, 3 laps)
The entry fee consists of a £2 donation to Durrell.
Training update
(11/03/15)Training this coming weekend will be back to normal for 1 week with run training and swim training both on at the normal times at Haute Vallee. No Duathlon racing this week, though I'm sure many will be rushing off for the junior mountain bike race at Mont Rossignol where we held our off-road duathlon earlier in the year.
Annual charity triathlon
(11/03/15)The annual charity triathlon in aid of Leukaemia & Lymphoma research is now in its third year. For 2015 the race will take place on Saturday 6th June which is earlier than usual due to the Island Games.
The event now has a website -
jerseykidstriathlon.com/ and entries can now be made online. This is a non-competitive event which is great fun which gives lots of other schoolchildren the chance to try out a triathlon and at the same time help fundraising for a good cause.
Almost 400 children took part in the first two years! If every Tristars member could find two friends from school to come and try this race we could help make it even bigger.
As in previous years Jersey Triathlon Club will be providing transition marshals so we will also be putting out calls for adult helpers nearer the time!
Duathlon results
(08/03/15)The results of Duathlon 5 and the race report can now be found on the
Results page. Series results have also been calculated and can be viewed by clicking here.
Latest duathlon results
(01/03/15)The results of this morning's race and the race report can now be found on the
Results page. Please let me know if you spot any errors in the results!
It was great to make use of the new club transition racks and the extra space available in the new transition area. Hopefully we can have the little issues ironed out when we race again next Sunday! Race details are as per today's race - sign on at 8:30 for a 9am start. If your bike needs gears restricted (see
Events page for details) please make sure you arrive in plenty of time and speak to a coach to get your gears checked.
Training and race this weekend (23/02/15)The next Duathlon in the Jacksons winter series takes place this Sunday morning at Les Quennevais.
As a result there will be
no Sunday run training at Haute Vallee. Swim training will be on at the usual time of 12pm.
Guernsey Granite Kids Triathlon, May (23/02/15)Details and forms for the Guernsey Granite Kids trip on 17th May have been sent out to those who responded to the earlier letter. If you responded but have not yet received an email please contact Dave.
We may have space for some additional athletes to travel if you did not originally respond, if you are interested please
email Dave for the full information and forms. We are taking children from Tristars Start, Tristars 1 and Tristars 2 age groups (born in years 2003 to 2007 inclusive) and staying overnight in Guernsey - arrangements are being made for those swimming at the competition in Guernsey the day before the triathlon.
Text service
(16/02/15)This weekend was the first time we have called into action a new text message service, due to the late information received about the closure of Haute Vallee pool over the weekend. The message was still also relayed through the website, email and facebook but the opportunity to text the message directly is something which might prove useful from time to time (for example if we have to make a late decision on training or a race due to weather). Hopefully all those who have provided a mobile number to Debbie received the text on Saturday afternoon.
Anyone who has not already provided a number to Debbie it would be useful if you could do so. There is a small cost to the club for using the service and therefore it will only be used for late notifications. This means that you will not receive a high volume of messages from us. It also means that you still need to keep an eye on the website/facebook for the latest information.
Swimming cancelled tomorrow
(14/02/15)
Unfortunately the Haute Vallee swimming pool is out of action today and tomorrow and therefore we are unable to run swim training this weekend. Run training will be on as normal though.
Nick Saunders coaching
(09/02/15)
It was great to have Island Squad triathlon coach Nick Saunders down to lead our training session on Sunday. Nick also stayed to watch part of the swim session and was very impressed by the turnout, behaviour and hard work of our Tristars - well done. It was also a lovely morning to be outside training, the first we've had for a while!
Off-island events
(02/02/15)Please see the attached letter relating to off-island competitions for 2015. Please note that for the main two events for 2015 (Portsmouth Triathlon and Eton Dorney)
we would like a response by Friday 6th February so that we can plan and organise the trips.
Trisuits - opportunity to order by Wednesday (01/02/15)Due to a problem with part of the original trisuit order we will be placing another THIS WEDNESDAY 4TH FEBRUARY. If having seen how smart the others looked racing in the new kit on Saturday (see also the picture below) and would like to order,
please let Debbie Kennedy know ASAP. If you want to try on one of the existing sizes to find out what size you need you can either arrange directly or Debbie can try to help but please note that final order need to be with Debbie by Wednesday.
After Wednesday we will hold a few different sizes in stock which will be available on a first-come, first-served basis. Tri-suits cost £64 but currently a club subsidy for members of £14 brings the cost down to a fantastic £50.
Corrected results
(01/02/15)The original results and report had an error in the Tristars Start section, this has now been corrected and revised results and report are now available.
Race results and report
(31/01/15)The latest race results and report can be found via the
results page. Well done again to all competitors in very cold and windy conditions this morning.
Remember, as a reward for today's efforts you can have a lie-in tomorrow as there is
no run training. Swim training is on as normal 12.00 to 13.00 (please be on poolside ready to swim before 12.00.
Next duathlon (already!)
(26/01/15)The next duathlon in the Jacksons winter series is this Saturday, 31st January, at Les Quennevais. Details can be found on the
Events page.
Just a reminder, as we had a difficult day in transition up at Mont Rossignol, parents/carers should not be in transition area during the races. We need to keep the transition area clear to allow competitors to get through. There will generally be a marshal in the transition area who can help any children having problems with shoes/helmets etc. As we have large number of racers now we can't accommodate all bikes in transition area at once so on arrival only Tristars Start and Tristars 1 should rack their bikes in transition. Other age groups will be given a chance to get into transition area when there is space and we ask that parents/athletes from the younger age groups help us out by removing bikes and kit once their race is complete (and before the next race starts).
Training for Sunday - there is NO RUN TRAINING this week (you need a rest) but swimming is on at the usual time (but not too much rest!).
Off road duathon results
(24/01/15)It might have been a bit chilly, but the weather was much better for this year's running of the off-road duathlon than last year with a lot less mud and misery! Well done to all 35 Tristars who took part today. There were plenty of new faces in the events today and with this being our hardest event of the year hopefully you weren't put off racing with us!
Results and race report can both be found on the
Results page.Event updates
(22/01/15)To update you on a busy couple of weekends ahead:
- Saturday 24th Jan Off road duathlon (see Events page)
- Sunday 25th Jan Run and swim training as usual (10:45 and 12:00)
- Saturday 31 Jan Revised date for duathlon at Les Quennevais (see Events page)
- Sunday 1 Feb There will be NO RUN TRAINING, but swim training as normal
Off road duathlon on Saturday
(19/01/15)We have our first duathlon race of the year on Saturday afternoon at Mont Rossignol. Details are on the
Events page. Mountain bike (or cyclo cross) required for this event as it is all off-road.
Training will still be on as normal on Sunday.
2015 event updates
(19/01/15)Please also note that there will be a change to the date of the following duathlon as we had a clash with the senior duathlon at Queens Valley on that date and unfortunately it's not possible to have the equipment in two places at once. As soon as we have a confirmed new date/time we will update you.
The committee has also been looking at off-island events for 2015 and there are a number of events which we are looking at either taking groups to or supporting. We will need to get some feedback and in the next few days I will put more information up here and let you know who to contact. In the meantime, as an initial preview, the (provisional) list of main off island events. More information to follow.
- 10th May Rennes Triathlon (School year 7 and above)
- 17th May Granite Kids Triathlon, Guernsey (up to Tristars 2)
- 14th June Portsmouth triathlon (South Central Junior Series)
- 5th July Eton Dorney (South Central Junior Series)
As always there will be groups going off to race at other events during the year and we will update on who is going where. In particular we expect to have families going to the Hever Castle triathlon in England and the Chateau de Chantilly triathlon near Paris (both part of the
Castle Triathlon Series). If you are looking for other events in the UK to go to a useful place to start might be to look at the full list of
South Central Junior Series races.Change to training times Sunday (13/01/15)We have been notified that our swim slot has to be moved forward 30mins on Sunday 18th Jan due to Island Games swim team commitments which Nathan has. We will therefore bring forward the start of run training 30mins to accommodate. Sorry for the inconvenience. Times will be as follows:
- Run session - meet at 10:00 for a 10:15-11:15 session
- Swim session - 11:30 - 12:30
Also, we have had an email from our contact at Haute Vallee School asking members/parents not to bring dogs onto the school site. I believe that this is a general policy on all school premises on the island and as we depend on Haute Vallee to provide us access to the facilities it is important that we stick to their rules.
Hampshire XC success
(08/01/15)
Well done to all those who raced at the Hampshire Cross Country Championships at Eastleigh at the weekend. There were some excellent runs from Jersey Tristars including 2nd place in the under 13 boys for Jack Kennedy and 2nd in the under 17 men for Sam Maher, both of whom gain automatic selection for the inter-counties cross country in March. Full results for our Tristars are below.
U13 Boys Jack Kennedy 2nd Peter Holmes 6th Will Atkinson 10th
U13 Girls Adele Maher 19th
U15 Girls Lilly McGarry11th
U17 Men Sam Maher 2nd Joe Hugh 20th

Senior duathlon (Tristars 3+)
(05/01/15)
The senior duathlon on Sunday 11th January has been confirmed as open to those in Tristars 3 age group and above (born in 2001 and earlier). The event is a "2 up" duathlon (teams of 2) but we have been advised that the team option will not be available to those aged under 18 (presumably for safety reasons).
The race takes place from the car park near La Pulente (south end of 5 mile road). Registration 07:45 and race start at 08:15. Distances are 2km run, 8km cycle, 800m run.
Training 4th Jan - time changes
(02/01/15)
Sorry for the late notice, but there was a mix-up regarding swim bookings for Sunday and because of the holiday swim camp being on our swim session will be at the later time of 13:00 - 14:00. As a result we will push back run training to start at 11:45 so please meet at 11:30 at Haute Vallee. This information will be emailed to members but please mention to others if possible to help get the message out. Looking forward to the first session of 2015 at the weekend.
Times should revert to normal thereafter.
For those swimming please make sure that you have completed forms and standing orders as the new swim block starts this month. If you don't have the forms or haven't yet put your name down for a place please speak to Fintan or Debbie.
Merry Christmas
(22/12/14)
Training is over now for 2014 so you can all have a restful Christmas. Training resumes on Sunday 4th January (run and swim training) at the usual times. Well done to all those who came down this weekend for training, the turnout was surprisingly large for so close to Christmas. A special big thanks to Andrew Boustouler who supplied all of the runners with free Errea branded hats which were both a great festive colour and also match our training kit very nicely (and they also helped keep our ears toastie). The swim session looked fun with a little bit of serious training including some open-water practice followed by some fun relays and a bit of playtime too.
See you next year.
Race calendar updated
(18/12/14)I have updated the
events calendar with the latest plans for the duathlon series plus information on the senior duathlon in January which will be open to Tristars 3 and above (age 13+ at 31/12/2015). Further details will be added as things are finalised.
Lost property
(18/12/14)I have a growing bag of lost property from training sessions this term. Latest additions include a pair of blue training fins, goggles and a cap. There are a pair of small girls trainers which we have had for a couple of weeks. If you are missing anything please see Dave at training on Sunday (last sessions of 2015!).
Additional Christmas swimming (16/12/14)The Jersey Amateur Swimming Association (JASA) is putting on free Christmas holiday training sessions starting tomorrow. Most of you will probably be aware of this through your swimming club. There are additional sessions which may be suitable for triathletes (run separately to the main competitive swimming sessions) if you are not already taking part or possibly in addition to existing sessions.
The sessions are open to club members
aged 10 or over and the list of sessions can be found here. All sessions are at Haute Vallee pool If you are interested in taking part in these please
contact Fintan Kennedy.
Christmas training
(11/12/14)Just to confirm dates for training over Christmas - Sunday training (run and swim training) will go ahead at the usual times on the 14th and 21st of December.
There will be no training on 28th December. Training resumes again in the new year on Sunday 4th January 2015. Please note that we will then be into a new term of swim training so you need to have signed up either for Sundays only or to use it as a Tigers session for Tigers members (see 26 November news item below).
Thanks to all who have renewed their membership through Entry Central. We have a few outstanding and will be chasing the regular attendees (and everyone who has benefited from subsidised kit) in the new year so please renew before then if possible (see
Membership Page).
Water polo team
(10/12/14)Well done to all those who took part in the fun water polo tournament for the Jersey Tristars team at the weekend: Libby Atkinson, Will Atkinson, Charlie Hart, Luke Holmes, Joseph Holmes, Freddie Lucas, Dan Roderick, Eva Scott, Daniel Stocke, Matthew Stocke, Hannah Worth. Not sure of the final position but we certainly won at least one game and performed well in the others, including giving the junior water polo team a scare!
Training as normal this weekend (running 10:30, swimming 12:00). We will be doing a half swim session followed by time trials (similar distances to those we did at Aqua Splash earlier in the year).
Reminders
(04/12/14)Fun Water Polo is this weekend for ages 8 to 11 and we have a Jersey Tristars team. If you haven't yet put your name down please speak to either Mark Atkinson or Ian Lucas ASAP. If you are taking part please remember to dress smartly in club tracksuit and t-shirt if you have them and grab a quick bit to eat and drink after swim training as you need to be at Aqua Splash at 2pm!
Tristars tri-suits are now available to order online - details of how to order are on the
Kit Page of the website - orders for the first round need to before 15 December. If you are unsure of sizing then please speak to Debbie Kennedy (
tristarskit@juniorjerseytri.com).
Swim arrangements for next year have been published and the sessions are now open, including those who were unable to get a place this term (please see email from Fintan or news item below dated 26/11/14).
The next Advisa Cross Country running race takes place this Saturday at Queen's Valley Reservoir (south side) - registration at 12:45pm.
Fun water polo competition on Sunday (04/12/14)I've located the latest flyer with details for Sunday. A copy of the rules of water polo can also be found by clicking here. Anyone else looking to join the team - ages 9 to 11 officially but strong swimmers who are 8 can also take part - please email ASAP (info@juniorjerseytri.com) or let Ian Lucas or Mark Atkinson know if you haven't already done so. We have enough to make a team but a few extras would be useful.
Swimming on Sunday
(03/12/14)Please note that Nathan has confirmed
swimming will go ahead at the usual time of 12pm to 1pm on Sunday 7th December (this was marked as TBC on the original dates list).
Missing track pump
(03/12/14)Simon Roderick's track pump went walkies at the Duathlon on Saturday. Can you please check that you haven't picked this up in error as it may have been doing the rounds inflating tyres before the race - and if you've got it can you bring to training on Sunday please.
Time trial results
(03/12/14)The times from the latest run time trials held at Haute Vallee in November are now available to view on the
Training Page (see link at the bottom of the page). The times from the earlier FB Fields time trials have also been included for comparison. Note that the latest time trials were run over distances based on your 2015 age group and therefore for some the distance run in the latest time trial may be different to what was done at FB Fields.
We will repeat the time trials at some point in the new year over the same courses to measure improvement and also to compare against BTF standards which are set for each age group/distance.
Duathlon results
(29/11/14)Great turnout for this morning's race and perfect conditions too. Results and race reports now available on the
Results Page.
Remember - no run training tomorrow (Sunday). Have a nice restful day (unless you're swimming at the gala).
Weekend events (no Sunday run training) (27/11/14)Due to another swimming gala at the weekend this week's swim training will take place on Saturday from 1:15pm.
We also have the duathlon earlier on Saturday, sign on from 10am - Tristars Start race kicks us off at 11am. Please be there in plenty of time as we need to check gears as a result of new BTF regulations restricting gear selection.
Finally, there will be
no run session this Sunday morning as a result of the gala and a shortage of coaching cover.
2015 swimming arrangements
(26/11/14)Given the resounding success of our swimming trial period with Nathan we have decided to continue the program from January.
The cost of the program from January will be £15 per month which covers a swim session once a week to be taken by Nathan on behalf of Tristars. The fee needs to be paid via a monthly standing order and forms will follow shortly for you to complete. The time of the session will continue to be on Sunday from 12 to 1 but there may be changes to that depending on swimming competitions at Haute Vallee.
For those of you who are not members of a swimming club, Nathan has asked me to point out that Tigers offer a Fitness Squad for £25 per month which offers you 4 one hour sessions a week of which the Tristars sessions can be one. I know some of you already subscribe to this squad and it is a great value offer for those of you that may be considering increasing your swim training. Please ask for further details if interested.
In the first instance places will be offered to children and thereafter parents who are also triathlon club members should there be sufficient space.
Please confirm ASAP to
tristarskit@juniorjerseytri.com to secure your place indicating if you wish to swim with Tristars only once a week or join the Fitness Squad and swim up to 4 times a week which includes the Tristars session.
Tristars training (and Fitness Club training) will be on-going with only a short break in the summer holidays - exact dates to be confirmed at a later date.
ASA registration is £12.50 and that's 12 months Jan to Jan. This will only need to be paid by those currently not swimming for either a Tigers or JSC.
Jersey Tristars tri-suits now available (26/11/14) We are now delighted to be able to offer subsidised tri-suits to Jersey Tristars members and they are now ready to order on-line
for a limited period only.To see the tri suit and make your order you need to go to:
custom.champ-sys.com/Login/en-GB/Please use the login on the
right hand side of the screen (CS Direct Member Login).
Input the Temporary Team Login:
- Username: jerseyjuniortriathlon
- Password: clubkit2014
Once you have done this you will need to create you own separate account to make your individual order.
Please choose performance classic tri-suit only. These are £64 each. The other trisuits are far more expensive!
The club will subsidise each tri-suit by £14. Please pay full amount plus delivery on-line and provide a hard copy invoice to Debbie Kennedy and the club will refund you £14 per suit (this is payable to members only, if not signed up for the current year you can find details of junior and family memberships on the
Membership page).
All CS Direct orders will end at 4PM on 15 December 2014. There needs to be a minimum of 10 orders to go ahead. If we do not get 10 ordered then unfortunately no one gets one
****sample sizes from XS to XL will be available to see this Saturday at the duathlon and after at swimming, please see Della****
Please get your orders in before the deadline above or the account lapses. Trisuits will be received by the end of January.Change of start time for Duathlon (21/11/14)Unfortunately we have been forced to put back the start time for next weekend's duathlon to 11am. Sign on and get bike gears checked from 10am please (we are going to try and do some gear restrictions at this Sunday's training session to relieve the pressure on race day). We are aware that there is also swim training that day at 1:15pm (did you remember?) and so we will be getting through the programme as quickly as possible to give the swimmers time to recover and hop down to Haute Vallee - Tristars Start will start promptly at 11am. Provisional race distances have now been added to the
Events page.
Remember bikes and transition kit (helmet, shoes etc) for transition practice on Sunday and that the swim session this weekend is Saturday morning 8am.
Fun water polo tournament
(21/11/14)Jersey Water Polo Club is organising a fun water polo tournament at Aquasplash on Sunday 7th December at Aquasplash 2pm to 6pm. I am waiting for more information but based on last year's event information it is for teams made up of 8 to 11 year olds. Teams from the swimming clubs and lifesaving club are likely to be taking part (you may also have been asked by your swimming club to join their team).
If you would like to put your name down for the Jersey Tristars team please can you let either
Ian Lucas(Freddie's dad) or
Mark Atkinson (Elizabeth & Thomas' dad) know.
Extra swim session on Saturday (19/11/14)Further to the update below Nathan has now offered to put on an extra swim session at the weekend for those who can make the alternative time. This will take place on Saturday morning from 8am to 9am at Haute Vallee. Sorry for the early start but there is a swimming competition on all weekend so it's actually great that he is managing to fit in a session at all!
Moving on to the following weekend (29/30 November) please note that the swim session is on Saturday 29th at 13:15 and not the Sunday (this is again because of a swimming competition at Haute Vallee). The Duathlon takes place on Saturday morning. I believe that training on Sunday may not be on (again affected by children and coaches at the swim gala) but check back here for confirmation next week.
Training this weekend - bring bikes (18/11/14)Remember there is no Sunday swim session planned for this weekend (for details of all sessions please see the document at the bottom of the
Training page).
At Sunday morning training (arrive 10:30) we will be practising transitions ahead of the duathlon race the following week. To take part in transition training you will need to bring:
- Bike
- Helmet
- Running shoes
- Cycling shoes (if planning to change shoes, remember elastic laces if doing so)
Please note that we will not be racing on bikes as we do not have space to do this safely. Training will consist of mounting/dismounting with short elements of riding and running. Please do not ride bikes around the school area or car-park when you arrive because there is a swimming gala on and it may be busy with pedestrians and vehicles.
If anyone is unable to bring a bike you may be able to practise using someone else's bike and can still take part in running activities.
Kit update
(18/11/14)
Due to exceptionally high uptake we are already sold out of the new t-shirt and short combos with the exception of a couple of the smallest size. Debbie is planning to put in a second order at the end of the month so please contact her ASAP to let her know if you want to include anything in the order.
New club kit
(17/11/14)
As you may have seen at training yesterday we now have some stock in of the new club t-shirts and shorts sets with the Jersey Tristars logo. These come as a set (i.e. including both top and shorts, not available separately) and are subsidised using sponsorship money so that the cost to members is £10 for the set. Please note that because of the subsidy we can only provide at this price to club members and one set per athlete.
There were also a couple of tracksuits available (size 40 and 34) from the last order available at £10 each (if they haven't gone already). Alternatively we will put in another tracksuit order at some point so please let Debbie Kennedy know if you are interested - the cost for the coming year will be £20 for tracksuits. This is still below cost thanks to the sponsorship subsidy but the subsidy has been reduced so that we can also subsidise the t-shirts and also the tri-suits which should be available before the end of the winter.
