info@juniorjerseytri.comJacksons Duathlon Series
(29/10/13)The calendar for the Jacksons Duathlon Series 2013/14 is starting to take shape - please check out the
Events page.. The first event will take place on Sunday 24th November at 9am (sign on at 8:30am please) at Les Quennevais. Some of the dates are provisional and will be updated when confirmed/amended.
Update to presentation start time (08/10/13)Please note that the start time for the presentation evening has had to be moved back due to the fact that Jacksons Garage remains open into the evening! The presentations will now kick off at 7pm, we will try to get things going fairly quickly so that the juniors aren't kept out too late on a school night. The trophies are being polished and engraved ready to be handed over to the 2013 winners. A new prize sponsored by Jacksons will also be given out for the first time this year so there will be more silverware than ever!
In the meantime there's still plenty going on as we have our training break, with the JCAYA mountain bike series kicking off this weekend as well as a JSC swimming gala. The following Saturday is the second race in the Advisa cross country series at St Ouen's manor.
Training resumes on 13th November.
A great finish to the summer
(27/09/13) What a fantastic way to wrap up the summer. Around 30 athletes got together for our last session at St Catherines for 2013 for a "fun night" in the water with inflatable toys, fins and bodyboards the order of the day. However, the highlight of the night was Sandy Hugh's RIB and Donut rides across the bay.
Thanks to Sandy for bringing the boat down and giving everyone a ride and also to Sam Hugh and her team of volunteers who served tea and cakes afterwords (and to all who baked/brought the cakes). The night was such a success that there are already calls to do it earlier in the summer next year so we can enjoy a long light evening.
Our next event is the annual presentation evening which I can now confirm will take place on Wednesday 6th November at Jacksons Garage in St Peter. Arrive from 6pm and we will aim to kick off proceedings around 6:30pm. A buffet will be provided and we look forward to hearing from Dan Halksworth who should be back from his first attempt at the World Ironman Triathlon Championships in Hawaii.

Coach Dan has his first attempt at the Ironman World Championships in Hawaii on 12th October. Here's Dan's latest video.
Local race reminder
(14/09/13)
A reminder of the local triathlon relay race, being organised by the senior section, which is open to juniors from age 11. I'm not involved in organising so will leave it to Matt Ebbrell's email to explain:
"We have made some changes to the Tri on September 22nd. Appreciate this may be a disappointment to those hoping for a longer race but due to (valid) issues with organisation, and the desire to 'tri' something different, the event will be as follows:
Venue: St. Caths
Start: 7:30am
Sign on: 6:45am
Briefing 7:15am
Format: 3 x mixed relay (1 male + 2 female or 2 male + 1 female)
Distance: 250m / 6.6km / 1.6km
The first team member will complete the entire course (swim / bike / run) before handing over to the next team member, who also completes the entire course (swim / bike / run) to hand over to the final member who completes the entire course (swim / bike / run) to finish the race. This is similar to the ITU format and is the first test event looking toward it being included in the 2015 Island Games.
Ages: 11+ (Adults be prepared to get whipped!)
This should be both fun, but also ultra competitive, I'm even tempted to have a dip for this one...Usual story, we need some volunteer marshals so please can you drop me or Alex an email either here or at admin@jerseytriclub.com if you can help out."

Jacksons 2013 triathlon series standings.
Jacksons triathlon series results
(07/09/13)Well done to everyone who took part in this mornings events. It was a great shame that we had to make the decision to move to a duathlon due to sea conditons but safety always had to come first. Thanks to all of the helpers without whom we wouldn't be able to put on such an event.
Race results and the race report are now available on the
Results page. Also on that page you will find the overall series results which are based on the best 3 results from the four events this summer. Photos will be added to the
Photo Gallery soon.
No training next week and other news (05/09/13)
Next Thursday is the Battle of Britain Air Display so there will be no triathlon training.
Training will resume on Thursday 19th September when the older group will be doing a run out to the RNLI station and then a group swim back across the bay to St Catherines.
Thursday 26th September will be the last session of the summer and is therefore "Fun Night", please feel free to bring along any inflatables, toys etc to bring in the water.
Results from this evenings training aquathlon can be found by clicking here (finish times only). Thanks to all the parents who helped swim/marshall/timekeep tonight.
Jacksons triathlon on Saturday
(05/09/13)
The final race is our Main Event for 2013 at St Catherines bright and early on Saturday morning. Please make sure that you bring your wetsuit, the water has warmed up nicely but for safety reasons juniors should still be wearing wetsuits for all club training and races please.

Races
(04/09/13)The final race of the Jacksons Summer Triathlon Series takes place this Saturday morning at St Catherines. There will be three age groups as per the other races so far this summer and you will compete in the same age group (regardless of any birthdays in the meantime!).
In addition the senior section of the club has a mixed format relay race on at St Catherines on 22nd September. The format will be that each of the three team members will complete a whole triathlon before handing on to the next team member. Distances are 250m swim, 6.6km cycle and 1.6km run. This event is open to juniors who are aged 11 or over at 31 December 2013. Look out for further details on the
main club website which should be appearing soon (note that this event replaces the planned St Brelade triathlon. Teams can be formed in advance or if you can't make up a team you can turn up on the day and try to find a team which needs an extra member. Teams must have at least one male and one female.
We will be having a practice aquathlon tomorrow so please bring along transition kit for swim to run changeover.
Free cycling kit
(30/08/13)Della has been told that Big Maggies bike shop on Burrard Street has a bag full of second hand cycling kit which junior triathletes would be welcome to go and have a look at to take away. I've no idea what kit and sizes but might be worth dropping in for a look.
Update: it’s gone!
Autumn training and events
(30/08/13)We are now drawing close to the end of the season for 2013. The final race of the summer is the Jacksons Triathlon at St Catherines on Saturday 7th September which is our "Main Event" this year. Next Thursday we will have another aquathlon race at training in preparation for the race so please bring your race shoes, talc etc to practice a quick change.
For the rest of September we will make the most of what light is left in the evenings and the pleasantly warm sea up until Thursday 26th September which will be the last training session of the summer. As usual we will have a break during October during which we will hold the annual awards evening, keep an eye here for details.
Winter training will resume at West Park from Wednesday 6th November (first week after half term). Further details nearer the time.
Off island racing news
(28/08/13)Five members of the Jersey Triathlon Club, including two juniors, travelled to Chantilly just outside Paris to take part in round 4 of the Triathlon Castle Series, a major triathlon event based around medieval castles and châteaux in Ireland, France and England.
In the U12 section Jack Kennedy emerged from the 200 metre lake swim in first position, only to drop back to 4th in the very technical bike section through the grounds of Chateau Chantilly. In what were atrocious conditions, Jack put in a typically strong 2k run to overtake 2 of his rivals and claim an excellent second position, just 10 seconds shy of the gold medal (
results).
In the U10 section Adam Kennedy, battled the elements to put in a typically gritty performance with solid efforts in all three disciplines, resulting in a 31st placing in a field of 62 (
results).
Meanwhile Harry and Hannah Worth's parents completed the Olympic distance race with a very early morning start. Philippa, despite not feeling well, battled her way through the race and the elements to finish 5th Lady in a total field of over 350. Richard put in his usual strong performance on the bike, helping him to a 29th placing in a time of 2 hours 41 mins. Fintan Kennedy, Adam and Jack's dad, completed his first ever triathlon in the shorter sprint event which was made up of a 400m swim, 20k bike and 5k run, finishing in a time of 1 hour 22 mins, 36th in a field of 232.
Another win for Ollie
(13/08/13)
Years of hard work with the junior triathlon section combined with additional work with the One Foundation seem to be really paying off for Ollie Turner this year. Tonight he took part in the senior aquathlon at St Catherines consisting of a 400m swim and 4km run - beating all of the senior competitors to finish first overall! Results to follow.
Training is back on this week, 6pm at St Catherine's on Thursday night.
Dan on IMUK win
(05/08/13)
Dan does it again
(04/08/13)
Earlier Today junior triathlon coach Dan Halksworth raced at Ironman UK in Bolton in defence of the title he won 12 months ago. I'm delighted to report that Dan has done it again, becoming a double Ironman UK champion with a victory margin of 3:37 over his good friend and training partner Stephen Bayliss. Dan's finish time was 8 hours, 45 minutes and 48 seconds!
After swimming 3.9km (equivalent to 154 lengths of the pool) and cycling 180km (equivalent to 120 laps of the track at Les Quennevais) Dan and Stephen came off the bike together (see picture below) and ran together for around 15km before Dan broke clear and built a lead which peaked at over 5 minutes.
Well done Coach Dan, an inspiration to all of the junior athletes and the coaches.
Aquathlon write-up
(31/07/13)The race report from the recent aquathlon is now available to view from the
results page.
Training in August
(31/07/13)Training will continue throughout August
with the exception of Thursday 8th August which is the Battle of Flowers Day. Thanks to all of the parents and other club coaches who have offered to help out during this month when the regular coaches are a bit thin on the ground.
Aquathlon results
(22/07/13)Results from Saturday's aquathlon are now available on the
results page. Well done to Dan Roderick, Jack Kennedy and Joe Hugh, overall winners of the three age groups.
Rebooting....
(18/07/13)After briefly going offline it looks like someone has put a penny in the meter and the website is back up and running again, ready to update you.
In the meantime hopefully the message about Saturday's Aquathlon has been circulating - race start time is now 8am (7:30am sign on). Sorry about stealing your long lie, but the hot weather typically brings out the crowds at St Caths so an early start should work better - having said which I've just checked the latest forecast which now says a possibility of rain on Saturday afternoon :(
The other news to report is that Mike Swain (aka Archie's Dad) has agreed to take on the role of our Child Protection Officer. In the coming months we will be developing the club's child protection policy in line with the policies of the British Triathlon Federation. In the meantime any athlete or parent with any concerns should discuss with Mike. We will update you as the new framework is put into place.
Eton Dorney junior races 2013
(10/07/13)Seven junior triathletes from Jacksons sponsored Junior Jersey Triathlon Club recently travelled to Dorney Lake, the venue of the Olympic Rowing Event in 2012 and inspired by that location all seven competitors did their island proud on a day when temperatures hit 30 degrees.
In the 8-10 age group Luke Killian (10) produced a fantastic all round effort to come home 7th in a field of 127. Adam Kennedy (7), the youngest competitor from the Jersey team showed that he has a bright future in the sport coming 25th in this age group, and 1st in his category, after a particularly strong bike leg. In the same age group, Daniel Roderick (10) started well with a strong swim before being hit with a stitch to finish a very good 26th overall.
In the 11-12 age group, One Foundation athlete, Jack Kennedy (10) finished a very creditable 15th. In a mass swim start of 145 competitors, Kennedy exited the water in 26th place. A strong bike leg moved him up to 19th before entering the run where he managed to haul back four more places. In the girls 11-12 age group, Aimee Hugh (11) produced her usual gritty performance. After a chaotic swim start she exited the water in mid field. With a typically strong bike, followed by an equally strong run Aimee secured a 44th place finish from a field of 93 competitors.
Joe Hugh (14) (13-14 age group) exited his swim leg in the middle of the pack but a quick transition and a strong bike leg put him in a great position entering the run leg to ultimately finish in 11th place after his favoured leg
Ollie Turner (14), another One Foundation athlete, had convincingly won the 13‑14 age group in 2012.
This year he moved up a class to test himself against the British High Performance Triathletes in a drafting event where he proved that he was not out of his depth by producing a stunning performance to take 5th place. Exiting the water in 8th place, Ollie worked well with 2 other triathletes to move up to 5th going into the run, a position he held onto. This result, along with his recent second place in the Jersey Super Sprint shows that we have another bright prospect for the future.
Results can be found here.
Another training aquathlon
(04/07/13)As we approach the big event at Eton this weekend it was more transition and race practise this week. Once again after a quick warm-up in the sea three groups set off for a run/swim with Ollie doing a swim/bike/run in preparation for the weekend. Results from the aquathlon can be found by clicking here.
Good luck to everyone racing this weekend - those travelling to Eton and also those taking part in the charity triathlon on Saturday for which entries have now reached an amazing 200! On that topic it's worth pointing out that the event at Les Quennevais will have a separate first and second transition area which means for those who normally change between cycling and running shoes that it might be easier for this fun event to stick to a single pair of shoes for both!
Jersey triathlon
(02/07/13)A great day of racing on Sunday saw large numbers of mums, dads and coaches racing in the annual Jersey Triathlon. But despite the unfortunate cancellation of the junior event it wasn't just the senior club members who had all the glory. In perfect preparation for this weekend's race at Eton Ollie Turner showed that he is starting to mix it with senior athletes with a fantastic 2nd place in the super-sprint event. Only former Commonwealth and Island Games competitor Scott Pitcher was able to gain the upper hand on Ollie. Pitcher managed to build a minutes lead over Ollie in the swim and whilst he extended the lead slightly on the bike, Ollie managed to reduce the deficit with the fastest run of the day.
Meanwhile coach Dan Hawksworth was showing how it was done in the Olympic distance race with a comfortable win from the front once again. Results from all of Sunday's events can be found on the event website at
www.jersey-triathlon.com

Charity triathlon
(24/05/13)As previously mentioned, Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research in Jersey, in combination with their partners Airtel-Vodafone, are putting on a fun triathlon in Jersey on 6th July. This isn't a club organised event but I have been asked to help out with some marshalling and promoting the event. Details, including entry forms (entry in advance only) are now on their website at
www.airtel-vodafone.je/charity News updates
(23/05/13)We are trying to negotiate Les Quennevais for Saturday 1st June at 3pm as a replacement for the cancelled triathlon. This is still pending confirmation of the booking so please keep an eye on the website for confirmation of this going ahead.
Well done to everyone who represented their school in this week's primary schools athletics competition. As expected our triathletes were to the fore in the longer distance running events.
Luke Killian won the year 5 boys' 600m title, having tried to keep the pace high on the first lap there were surprisingly two other boys still in contention with 200m to go and it required a late surge to seal the win. A good run by Daniel Roderick took him to 5th in his qualifying heat, missing qualification to the final by just a single place.
In the year 6 boys' 800m event Jack Kennedy was just pipped in a frantic sprint to the line against a competitor from VCP, but second place is enough for him to qualify for the inter-insular competition in July. Peter Holmes and Dougie Brown both made the final in this event. Will Atkinson almost made the final but was on the receiving end of a finish judge mix-up having pipped his competitor to fourth place (and last qualifying spot) in the heats, only to be given 5th place in the official standings.
In the year 6 girls' 800m Adele Maher left the pack standing in the first 100m and maintained a pace which couldn't be matched by any of the other girls. By the finish line her lead was well over 100m from a tightly bunched pack who contested the sprint for second. Aimee Hugh also made the final in this event.
Full results can be found here.May triathlon cancelled
(15/05/13)Unfortunately due to a mistake by the booking office for the track at Les Quennevais on 25th May the junior triathlon originally planned will not now go ahead (the senior novice race is still on). Della is working hard to find an alternative date to put on a junior pool swim triathlon in June and I will update you as soon as possible on any revised plans.
Aquathlon
(15/05/13)The results from Sunday's Aquathlon are now available on the
results page. Well done to everyone who took part and especially to the junior section winners; Dan Roderick, Ellie Boustouler, Jack Kennedy and Adele Maher.
Well done also to everyone who took part in the Advisa relay races on Saturday and those who collected trophies for placing in the overall series this winter (pictured below are some of the athletes who ran on Saturday).
Aquathlon
(06/05/13)The next race is an aquathlon which takes place this Sunday, 12th May, at Aquasplash. The event includes both a senior (400m swim, 2.5km run) and junior race (age groups/distances TBC) with the first race setting off at 3pm. Please register in plenty of time from 2:15pm.
I'm not aware whether the juniors or seniors will race first but either way this is a good chance to watch and pick up some tips from the senior athletes, particularly in transition.
Training in May
(26/04/13)As the JCAYA cycling at Les Quennevais starts on Wednesday evenings from next week (1st May) junior triathlon training will move to Thursday evenings from 2nd May. Due to the earlier than normal start to JCAYA training and low sea temperatures we will not be moving out to St Catherines to start swim training quite yet.
Training during the month of May will be on
Thursday evenings at
17:30 from the shelter opposite
West Park (i.e. the same as normal winter training but on Thursday instead of Wednesday).
The plan is to move out to St Catherines with effect from Thursday 6th June.
Forthcoming races
(18/04/13)It was great to be back training yesterday, in the sunshine and on the beach - perfect. We are now starting to do some faster interval training work which is important to help get good running speed in your legs to build on the fitness and strength we've been building up over the winter.
Of course a bit of racing is also a good way to help get the body up to speed and the Spartans/Advisa relay race has been announced for Saturday 11th May at Kempt Tower. Details can be found on the linked entry form. Teams can be made up of any group, school, friends etc - it would be good to see some Triathlon Club teams entered wearing the white Jacksons t-shirts (photo on the website almost guaranteed)!
If you want to take part but don't know others to make up a team or don't have enough to make up a full team please email
Angela Raimbault with your name, email address, phone number and school year and she will try to link you up with others to make full teams. Note that there is a mixed team category for the first time this year for school years 7 to 10.
The following day, Sunday 12th May, will see the first of the Aquathlon of the year at Aquasplash. This event is a combined junior/senior event and is organised by the senior section of the club. Further details will be published when they are confirmed to me, but the event typically takes place in the early afternoon.
Easter holiday news
(14/04/13)It seems to have been a quiet time over Easter for sport, with many athletes away for the school holidays.
Peter, Joseph and Luke Holmes managed to stumble across the London Fields Aquathlon during their visit to London with Peter finishing the 100m swim and 1km run as first junior (under 15) and Joseph taking silver in the under 10's section with Luke 5th. If anyone else has raced away from Jersey
let me know by e-mail and I'll share it here with the world.
Training resumes this Wednesday on the usual winter programme until the end of April (details of training sessions from May will be published here so keep an eye out for details).
Call for volunteers
(27/03/13)The Airtel-Vodafone organised charity triathlon in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research is due to take place on the afternoon of 6th July at Les Quennevais. They are looking for volunteers to marshal what should be a really big and fun event. I've offered to try and find 11 volunteers from the triathlon club to help marshal the transition areas. If anyone any parents or the older children are able to help out then can you please let me know (email
dave@juniorjerseytri.com). Can you also confirm if you have been recently police checked and by whom (eg teachers, coaches etc) as anyone who hasn't will need to be police checked (this is a stipulation of the Education department who are involved in promoting the triathlon).
Details of the event should be circulated through schools, the information I have at the moment is on the
Events page (though this is not a club event).
Duathlon series results
(27/03/13)The final standings for the Jacksons Junior Duathlon series can now be found on the
results page. A fantastic 46 children took part in at least one duathlon with a fantastic 24 completing 3 or more races to qualify for a series ranking (despite the third race having to be cancelled due to the weather).
In the 10 and over age group Sam Maher took first place ahead of Jack Kennedy and Peter Holmes. Adele Maher was the first girl (and fifth overall) ahead of Aimee Hugh and Rosie McManus.
In the under 10 group Luke Killian took victory ahead of Malo Monpetit and Dan Roderick. First girl was Lily Scott who was fourth overall, ahead of Ellie Bousouler and Eva Scott.
Well done to all who took part. Certificates will be given to everyone who qualified for a series ranking and medals for the series winners later in the year.
Online updates
(26/03/13)Please note that the major form of communication with club members is now through the website (this news page) and for any last-minute updates (race cancellation or last minute change) the club's Facebook page which can be found by searching for Jersey Tri Club on Facebook (Facebook login required).
After much delay the junior memberships are finally online at Entry Central from today. Now that we have taken control of this from the main club committee we hope to have an earlier launch for the next membership year. See
Membership page for details. If you use the online membership subscription and experience any problems please let us know by
email.
Duathlon results
(25/03/13)Results of the final duathlon of the series are now available on the
2013 Results page. Full series results will be posted in the next few days.
Last training before the Easter break will be this Wednesday, after which we return on 17th April and will be starting on our Spring training program.
If you are doing any racing away from the island over Easter please send photos and race reports in to me at
webmaster@juniorjerseytri.com and I will keep everyone updated.
Tomorrow's duathlon
(23/03/13)The final duathlon of the Jacksons Junior Winter Series takes place tomorrow morning at Les Quennevais. The race starts at 9:30am, sign on from 9am.
Please note that there will be a senior cycling race on the track until 9am, athletes arriving before 9am should not cycle or run on the track until the racing is complete. Last minute message from Advisa Cross Country (23/03/13)Hello Runners,The JMLCC are having sprint races along the 5 mile road tomorrow from noon, therefore it is possible you may not be able to get into the La Carriere car park.We suggest you avoid the La Pulente area (as these roads may be closed) and approach the race from Mont a la Brune and park in the car parks where we normally meet for running at La Braye. There will be signs pointing the way to the registration desk and to the start of the race from these car parks. Also, there will be a diversion of the westbound lane of the Avenue near Bel Royal due to a burst pipe, and traffic could be slow. Please give yourself plenty of time to get to the race and get parked, as we would like to start and finish on time (as so many of you our young runners are keen to go watch the Jersey Rugby match.Forecast looks good, Damian & Guy have planned & measured an exciting new course, and the Environment Dept have given us their approval to go ahead, so looks like it should be a great event!Kind regards,AngelaSwimarathon
(19/03/13)Fifteen juniors turned up for an early start at LQ on Saturday morning for the swimarathon – rather wet before they even got into the pool due to the awful weather conditions at 7am! We had two teams with all juniors getting into the spirit of the event with the lively atmosphere on the pool side.
The older group, made up of Luc Monpetit Le Brun, Jack Lutz, Will Masterman & Jack Kennedy, ploughed up & down the pool to push up the lap counter. The younger ones;Daniel Roderick, Aimee Lutz, Lily Scott, Tom Masterman, Adam Kennedy, Byron Stolte, Jack Lumsden, Harry Worth, Hannah Worth, Ruby Strathie & Robyn Kemp all put in fabulous swims too. The total number of laps completed by the Junior Jersey Triathlon teams was 115 and almost £200 in sponsorship was raised for the Lions Club.
Great effort by all – Well done guys and especially those juniors that went on to do a further hour for the swimming clubs!

Advisa cross country
(18/03/13)Late details of the final race in the advisa junior cross country series have just been announced. The race will take place at La Carriere which is near the Southern end of Five Mile Road (between Le Pulente and Le Braye). Sign on at 12:45 for a 13:15 start to the first race. See attached map for details.
ESAA cross country
(17/03/13)While the primary school runners were in Guernsey a select group of Jersey secondary school athletes was in Catton Park in South-Derbyshire to contest the English Schools Athletics Association ("ESAA") Cross Country Championships. Included in that group was Samuel Maher who ran in the Junior boys category over a 3 lap 4.4km course. Sam finished an amazing 29th (and first Channel Islander) out of a field of 323 runners in a time of 15:33. Well done Sam!
Primary schools inter-insular
(16/03/13)Five triathlon club members were part of a 24 strong squad travelling over to Guernsey for the annual primary schools inter-insular cross country today. A change of venue announced on Friday meant that the race took place at Port Soif rather than the planned course at Delancey Park.
Year 5 runners raced over 2 laps of an undulating grassy course and in the boys' race Luke Killian led after one lap but couldn't hold off Guernsey's Chris Bain over the full distance and finished in an excellent second position.
In the Year 6 age group the girls' team captain Adele Maher was Jersey's strong hope but she also had to make do with a lonely second place behind rapid Guernsey star Eliza Mason whilst Rosie McManus ran well in a strong field to take 7th. Aimee Hugh was in a very close battle and looked to be swamped by runners as she rounded the last corner in 11th, but in a last ditch sprint to the line she propelled herself to 9th place.
Boys' team captain Peter Holmes was the triathlon club's sole representative in the boys' year six race due to the absence of Jack Kennedy through illness on the day of the qualifying race. Peter couldn't quite hold onto the fast pace set by Guernsey's Louis Le Cheminant through the early stages and though he did reduce the deficit to just a few metres by the finish of the race he too had to settle for a second place.
With Jersey's Year 6 boys packing well they managed the only team victory for Jersey today, the overall result saw Guernsey retain the trophy with a large margin of victory of 68 points to Jersey's 91 (lowest score wins).
Adele Maher, Rosie McManus and Aimee Hugh made up half of Jersey's Year 6 Girls' team

S'now joke
(12/03/13)As the snow is currently still falling and temperatures aren't expected to increase any time soon we've made an early decision to cancel junior run training this Wednesday (13th March). Hopefully back as usual on 20th March.
In the meantime let's keep our fingers crossed that the weather returns to normal spring-like conditions for those athletes going over to Guernsey on Saturday for the cross country. Good luck to all of you. I will be there to capture some pictures and a race write-up for the website!
Good luck also to all of the Swimarathoners on Saturday morning.
Easter break
(06/03/13)It has been agreed that we will take a break from Wednesday night run training for two weeks over the school Easter holidays. There will be no training on 3rd or 10th April, with training resuming on 17th April and 24th April after which we expect to move onto the summer timetable from 2nd May (though swimming will not start until it is warm enough!). JCAYA Wednesday night cycle coaching is due to resume on Wednesday 1st May.
In the meantime we have a few more weeks to prepare for the final duathlon of the series which is on Sunday 24th March at Les Quennevais. For details of the current series leaders please see the write up from the last race - full series results will be published following the final race, scores are based on an athlete's best three results from the series so lots to play for.
Swimarathon
(01/03/13)With the junior inter insular cross country being on the same day as the swimarathon, can anyone who has qualified to race in Guernsey and can no longer make the swimarathon team please
contact Della ASAP to let her know. I believe that there are still spaces in the lanes available so if anyone would like to join one of the teams (athletes or parents) please let Della or Paula Turner know ASAP.
Primary schools cross country
(27/02/13)Well done to all of the Year 5 and Year 6 children who took part in the primary schools open cross country races today. As we have come to expect the individual winners were dominated by triathlon club regulars. Luke Killian took individual victory in the Year 5 boys' race while Peter Holmes and Adele Maher won the individual Year 6 titles. Rosie McManus and Aimee Hugh will join the winners as part of a team of 24 travelling to Guernsey for the inter-island match.

(25/02/13)Results from Sunday's duathlon and a write up of the race can now be found on the
2013 Results page.
Results
(24/02/13)Results and write up from this morning's duathlon should be available tomorrow. In the meantime, those athletes who missed this morning's duathlon in order to race in Guernsey had some good individual results. Jack Lutz finished third in the boys U13 race with William Brown 5th and Isaac Du Val 9th, with the overall team result being a draw with Guernsey. Adele Maher's 5th in the girls' race wasn't enough to stop a team victory for Guernsey. In the U15 boys Sam Maher ran to an excellent 2nd place with Joe Hugh 5th and Ollie Turner in 9th, again the Guernsey team proved too strong.
Full results for the junior inter insular cross country races can be found
here.
Specialized helmet
(24/02/13)
I have a black with red pattern Specialized bike helmet which was picked up in error after this morning's duathlon. I will bring to training on Wednesday, alternatively you can e-mail me to let me know it's yours: dave@juniorjerseytri.com
Well done to everyone who took part in any of the sessions this weekend. I will have a write-up, photos and race results in the next few days when I've had time to recover. Watch out on Channel Television tomorrow for coverage of the weekend.
Run training session
(23/02/13)
Thank you to all of you who turned out in the cold this morning for the run training session, it was great to see the enthusiasm and effort which all of the juniors put in and I think you all did well to get the most out of Jack's coaching. A useful lesson in cadence which hopefully we can build on in future sessions.
Look out for some of our superstar junior triathletes on Channel Television this week.
Track inspection passed
(23/02/13)Despite the snow the FB Fields has passed an early morning inspection and we will be training with Jack this morning. Wrap up warm though - lots of layers!
Weekend weather and other updates (22/02/13)Despite the gloomy forecasts it's looking clear but chilly for the weekend coaching sessions and duathlon. These should both go ahead without problems but remember to wrap up warm and please remember £1 for track fees in the morning.
Because some of the older athletes (and their parents) are away in Guernsey on Sunday we are short on timekeepers for Sunday morning's duathlon so any parents who can help out please make yourself known to Dave/Andy/Della/Simon on Sunday.
For the session at Jacksons garage tomorrow night parking will be limited if lots of you turn up, so if you can share lifts etc that might help. Please take care when parking and leaving, there are some very expensive cars around there and whilst Jacksons are very generous in their sponsorship of the club I'm not sure how far that generosity might extend if we damage their cars!!
Memberships
(20/02/13)For some reason we have been unable to get the junior club memberships onto Entry Central and therefore we are now having to ask junior members to sign up the old fashioned way by printing and filling in a membership form and returning with money to one of the coaches. The membership form can be found here.
Family memberships can be obtained online through
Entry Central.
A busy weekend ahead
(18/02/13)A reminder of all of the activities we have on this coming weekend:
Saturday morning training sessions at the track (FB Fields) from 9am and 9:45am. Athletes in the 9am session will have had a letter with details, the 9:45am session will be open to all juniors. Could all athletes please bring £1 for track fees.
Saturday evening from 6:15pm to approx 7:15 at the Jacksons showroom in St Peter; a social event, Q&A with Jack Maitland with buffet and refreshments.
Sunday morning duathlon at Les Quennevais, 9am sign on for 9:30am start. Distances as per the earlier races in the series.
Channel Television are hoping to make it along to some of these events, it would look great if everyone who has got one could wear their Jacksons sponsored club t-shirts! I hope to see lots of you there Saturday and Sunday.
Jack Maitland training sessions
(11/02/13)Whilst Jack Maitland, coach of Olympic champion Alistair Brownlee, is in the island he will be doing some coaching with athletes. A small group of juniors (mainly from the older group) has been identified and contacted with details of a coaching session Jack will run on the morning of 23 February. In order to allow as many juniors as possible to benefit from Jack's coaching we will also be running an open coached session from 9:45 to 10:15am at FB Fields on Saturday 23 February. Athletes will need £1 to cover track fees. Please ask Dave if you have any questions.
Summer race schedule
(11/02/13)Provisional dates for Summer 2013 races can be found in the
events section of the website. Details are being worked out and will be updated when details are finalised.
Once again the club would like to support juniors wishing to travel to the Eton triathlon in July, jersey junior athletes have competed at Eton with some success over recent years. Unfortunately Coach Andy will not be able to travel with athletes this year, if one of the parents would be willing to act as a co-ordinator for this year please let Andy know.
No duathlon again!
(10/02/13)Due to heavy rain overnight and flooding on the track and transition area at Les Quennevais it was necessary to cancel the junior duathlon again this morning. For those hardy souls who turned up to face the rain a short cross country race was hastily organised on the railway walk and the wet and muddy pine walk track (estimated distance 1,250m). Jack Kennedy took a comfortable lead early on and held on for the victory over Peter Holmes with a margin of 6 seconds. First girl home was Ellie Boustouler with a winning margin of just over a minute to younger sister Olivia.
Given the conditions all of the juniors who completed the running race this morning deserve congratulations for their efforts in difficult conditions. Results can be found on the
2013 results page.
Senior duathlon
(06/02/13)The next senior duathlon is a sprint distance race at St Catherines on Sunday 17th February. We have been advised by the organiser that this will be open to anyone aged 15 or over
(age at 31 December 2013). Please note that juniors will have to have a parent present when they register, to sign a parental consent. Race distance will be 5km run, 20km cycle, 2.5km run. The race starts at 8am.
Confirmation of revised Duathlon date (05/02/13)We can now confirm that the next duathlon will take place on 10th February (this Sunday). The race start will be 9:30am as per the other races this year, the senior race due to take place after the junior race won't now be going ahead unfortunately. Sign on at 9am please. Age groups and distances as previously:
- 1000m run, 3km cycle, 1500m run (under 10/up to Year 5)
- 1500m run, 4.5km cycle, 1500m run (10 and over/Year 6 and over)
Spot the mistake...
(01/02/13)Further to my earlier posts about the Swimarathon it has been pointed out that 16th March is a Saturday and not a Sunday as I'd stated (relevant posts below corrected!).
So to repear, the Swimarathon is booked for Saturday 16th March 8am. We have four lanes and are looking for juniors and parents to swim and help raise some funds. Can anyone who can join the team please
email Della by Tuesday 5th Feb.
Swimarathon (again)
(30/01/13)Can you please let Della or Paula know if you will be doing the Swimarathon by Tuesday (5th Feb).
Swimarathon
(29/01/13)Further to my earlier post Della is organising the Swimarathon teams with help from Paula Turner. Can you please
e-mail Della to let her know names of children and parents who would like to take part in the Swimarathon so that she can organise teams.
We have four lanes at 8am on
Saturday March 16th. The aim is to have three teams of juniors and one lane for parents/seniors.
Late cancellation of Duathlon
(24/01/13)Unfortunately we have been informed today by the States that they are cancelling our booking of the track this Sunday and
we have no choice but to cancel Sunday's duathlon due to rescheduling of football fixtures. The duathlon is currently being rescheduled for Sunday 10th February with a likely race start time of 9am. Keep an eye on here for confirmation.
Of course all of us are disappointed to have such a let-down at this late stage but unfortunately we are at the mercy of the States/Les Quennevais on this and it is their policy to prioritise football over other sports.
Questions for Jack Maitland
(24/01/13)Jack has suggested that the Saturday night function which he will be speaking at is run as a question and answers session, at which he will answer questions submitted by you. So that we can collect and organise questions in advance can you all have a think about what you might want to ask Jack about and
email me with your questions. I'll then organise them and put them together for Jack.
For some ideas about what you might want to ask bear in mind that Jack was an experienced elite triathlete (he competed for Scotland at the Commonwealth Games in Auckland at which Triathlon was a demonstration sport) and before that an international orienteer and runner. He is now coach to not only Jonny and Alistair Brownlee and was at London 2012 but he also coaches some of the top junior triathletes in Britain and the world and was at the 2012 world championships in Auckland, New Zealand. You might want to ask him questions on training sessions, technique, amount of training, racing, rest, nutrition etc.
Jack is looking forward to answering your questions so please send as many in as you can think of!
Next Duathon this Sunday
(23/01/13)The third duathlon in the winter series takes place this Sunday, 27th January, at Les Quennevais. Distances will be the same as the previous races with the under 10s doing a 1km run followed by a 3km (2 lap) cycle and a final 1.5km run (1 lap). The 10 and overs will run 1.5km, cycle 4.5km (3 laps) and complete a final 1.5km (1 lap) run. Sign on at 9am for a 9:30 start.
This weekend there will also be a senior duathlon immediately after our junior event, so if you stay around after you have finished you will get the chance to watch some of the big guys in action and pick up a few tips (they will start at about 10:15).
Calling parents and swimmers
(14/01/13)We have been allocated lanes at the Swimarathon once again this year. We have four lanes at 8am on
Saturday March 16th. The aim is to have three teams of juniors and one lane for parents/seniors.
We are initially looking for a volunteer to co-ordinate our teams, if you would be willing to help out can you please
e-mail Della. Once we have an organiser we will start compiling a list of swimmers so keep an eye out here for more information.
Changes to Advisa XC dates
(14/01/13)Please note that changes to the Advisa Cross Country series dates have been published. The remaining races will now be as follows:
- 26 January Kempt Tower
- 23 February Noirmont
- 23 March Location to be confirmed
Races are open to athletes in school years 3 to 10. All races start at 13:15, athletes should arrive in time to register at 12:45.
The next JCAYA cycling races are the grass track race at Les Creux on 27th January and race 2 of the Winter series on 3rd February at Mont Rossignol (parking at the usual place for the Val de la Mare events).
Jack Maitland visiting Jersey
(09/01/13)We are delighted to announce that with the support of our club sponsor, Jacksons, we will be visited by a very important guest in February of this year. Jack Maitland is best known as the
coach to British Olympic triathlon medalists Alistair and Jonny Brownlee. Jack was an international elite athlete himself until a few years ago and now coaches a number of quality athletes including the Brownlee brothers as well as Non Stanford (current junior world champion) and Tom Bishop (third in the world junior championships 2012).
Jack will speak to athletes at an event hosted at Jacksons Garage in St Peters on
the evening of Saturday 23 February where he will share some insight on what it takes to be an olympic and world championship winning triathlete with some interesting and inspiring stories of his time as an athlete and coach.
We hope that Jack will also join us for the Duathlon on the morning of Sunday 24th and we are also hoping to have Jack do a coaching session with some of the 'older' athletes either on the Saturday or Sunday (can those planning to run in Guernsey on 23rd
drop me an email to give me an idea how many are away on the Saturday).
For further details please check back here soon.
Back into it
(07/01/13)Training resumes this Wednesday, 9th January, 5:30 from the first shelter at the start of the bike path on Victoria Avenue (opposite West Park). Please be there and
ready to run by 5.30. Please also remember that you must have a reflective vest or jacket to wear as we will be running in be dark conditions until well into March.
For those who ride the JCAYA mountain bike races the new series starts this Sunday, sign on at 2pm at
Val de la Mare. For those who haven't tried it before details are on the
JCAYA's website - you can try one race for free and thereafter you can either join the club or pay on a per-ride basis.
Hampshire XC champs, Eastleigh
(05/01/13)A happy new year to you all, may you all achieve your sporting goals for 2013!
Several of our young athletes were part of a squad selected by Jersey Spartan to travel to the Hampshire Cross Country championships which took place at a muddy Fleming Park in Eastleigh this morning.
The under 15 boys tackled a one lap course of 4.3km. Sam Maher was the leading Jersey boy finishing 6
th in a field of 43 finishers. Next in for Jersey was Joe Hugh who completed the course in a strong 16
th place helping the Jersey team to secure 4
th place.
The under 13 boys and girls had a shorter single lap course of 3.5km, Jack Lutz was second Jersey boy home in 8
th place followed 30 seconds later by William Brown in 13
th. Isaac Du Val managed to get himself in to a points scoring position for the Jersey team in 24
th securing second place in the team event. A fantastic achievement, but unfortunate that the only team higher on the podium was the old enemy from Guernsey. Adele Maher finished a creditable 34
th out of 68 finishers in her first year in this age group.
Overall both Jersey and Guernsey continue to punch above their weight at County level, but with Guernsey winning the both the men’s and women’s senior events for the second year in three the onus is on our junior runners to keep it up for the next few years to help put Jersey on top.
Sam Maher with the leading contenters early in the U15 boys' raceSwimming results
(19/12/12)A number of young triathletes took part in the Island Age Group Champs held by JSC at the weekend. There were several PBs and a few medals including a bronze for Luke Killian in the 50 freestyle, a Bronze for Joshua Troy in the 100 backstroke and one medal of each colour for Will Masterman who won his 100m freestyle, came second in the 200m IM and third in the 50 breastroke.
I've managed to get hold of a copy of the full results so if you want to see how you did you can find a copy by clicking here.
Duathlon results
(17/12/12)Duathlon results and the race report can now be found in the
2013 results section. Well done to event winners Sam Maher, Adele Maher, Luke Killian and Lily Scott who all made it two series wins out of two and therefore lead the series standings for their respective categories.
Just one more training session this side of the New Year!
Duathlon on Sunday
(13/12/12)Duathlon 2 of the Jacksons Junior Duathlon Series takes place this Sunday, 16th December at Les Quennevais. Sign on from 9am in plenty of time for 9.30 race start. Distances will be as per race 1:
1000m run, 3km cycle, 1500m run (under 10)
1500m run, 4.5km cycle, 1500m run (10 and over)
New duathletes always welcome, you will need to have a roadworth bike and helmet. If you have any questions please send them to
info@juniorjerseytri.com .
Christmas training
(12/12/12)Training is on tonight and also next Wednesday (19th December) as normal, 5:30pm from the first shelter. There will be
no training on 26th December or 2nd January. Training will resume again on 9th January 2013.
If you haven't got one any, make sure a reflective vest/jacket is on your Christmas list!
Updates
(06/12/12)Please note that the Duathlon dates for early 2013 have been confirmed, the races will now be on Sunday mornings and not the Saturdays originally identified - details on the
events page.
The last Advisa cross-country race of 2012 takes place this weekend (8th December) at Queens Valley (
click here for map). There is limited parking (parking is at the Southern/bottom end with the race starting up on the dam wall) so I would recommend sharing lifts or getting there in plenty of time. Sign on at 12:45, first race starts at approx 13:15.
Last MTB race of 2012
(03/12/12)Yesterday saw the last youth mountain bike race of the year and the last of the autumn series, followed by the end of year prizegiving. Well done to all of those who raced in cold and muddy conditions up at Sorel Point. Several young triathletes made it onto the podium for the series, well done to Luke Holmes, Lily Scott, Malo Monpetit Le Brun, Aimee Lutz, Aimee Hugh, Luc Monpetit Le Brun, Jack Lutz and Adele Maher. Some photos from the race and prizegiving have been added to the
Photo Gallery.
Updates
(29/11/12)What a great turnout at run training last night, particularly in the younger age group. It looks like we had a few of the young athletes who did their first duathlon at the weekend joining us for training which is great to see.
As a reminder to everyone coming along to Wednesday night run sessions we would like to see all of the athletes wearing something bright and, ideally, reflective to keep us safe over the dark winter months. A simple reflective vest/bib can often be obtained from the 99p shop, it doesn't have to be a specialist run bib so cost shouldn't be a problem.
The final race in the JCAYA mountain bike series takes place this Sunday at
Sorel Point, sign on at 13:30 for a 14:00 start. The race will be followed after by the AGM and prizegiving at the Priory (Devil's Hole). If the weather is anything like at last year's mud-bath then it will be worth bringing towels and spare clothes for after the race! The Priory has hot food available but you will need cash (I think it's only about £3-£4 for a basket meal).
Club bikes
(28/11/12)The junior section of the Club owns a number of road bikes which are loaned to young athletes to help reduce the financial burden on parents at a time when athletes tend to grow out of expensive equipment quickly. There are a limited number of bikes and therefore it will not always be possible to meet demand. If you are interested in a club bike (we have large and small sizes) then you will need to let Della know (by
email or in person) and she will maintain a list and re-allocate bikes when available.
Allocation is done largely on a first-come first-served basis but you should note that priority will be given by the coaches to athletes who have demonstrated that they are likely to make good use of it (those who regularly train and, in particular, race). Athletes and parents are expected to look after the bikes whilst they have them and will be required to sign a loan agreement.
The club will also be buying a couple of wetsuits, with funds provided by Waitrose, in time for next years open water swimming season. The same rules will apply to ensure we get the best possible use from this equipment.
Results and pictures
(26/11/12)The latest duathlon results are now available in the
results page. Photos are available in the
photo gallery.
Duathlon 1
(24/11/12)What a fantastic turnout for this morning's duathlon, with a huge number of new faces to keep the timekeepers on their toes. Despite a very damp outlook a total of 29 athletes took to the start line with a fantastic 17 of them in the under 10 age group. The under 10s tackled a course of 1000m run, 3km cycle and 1500m run to finish with the 10 and overs having to complete a 1500m run, 4.5km cycle and a final 1500m run.
With a staggered start the younger age group had a 500m head-start with the older athletes trying to catch them over the first run. There was no catching Luke Killian though who was pushed hard over the first run by Dai Dos Santos. Daniel Roderick was third into transition followed closely by older athlete Sam Maher who had caught and passed the remainder of the younger group and the leading girl, Lily Scott. Joe Hugh had a strong run to minimise the impact of Maher's strongest event with only a 5 second defict to Maher. Jack Kennedy came round in third place in the older category with Adele Maher following as leading girl in that age group.
After a quick transition both Killian and Maher stamped their authority on proceedings with the fastest bike splits in their categories. Killian also managed the fastest final 1500m run of his category to take a comfortable victory over Roderick who took second place with a strong cycle but was pushed hard to the finish line by Dos Santos. Scott took fourth overall in the under 10 years category with the honours for the girls after a strong cycle and tough final run.
In the older age group Hugh had maintained his second place ahead of Kennedy on the bike leg and posted the fastest second run of the day to hold on to second place ahead with Kennedy finishing in third. In the girls over 10 race Adele built up a commanding lead with a strong bike leg, a solid final run by Rosie McManus was enough for third place behind Aimee Hugh with Adele taking the victory.
Well done to all of those first timers who gave it a go today, there were some really inspirational performances from some very young duathletes and others who showed real grit and determination to push themselves a long way outside of their comfort zone.
A big thank you to our club sponsor Jacksons who provided us with the nice big start/finish signs used for the first time at today's race. Thanks also to all of the parents who helped out with marshalling, organisation and timekeeping jobs on a morning when you would probably have rather been in bed!
Draft results can be found here, with so many new names I may have got a few wrong or wrong spelling etc - let me know if I need to correct by emailing
webmaster@juniorjerseytri.com. Final results should be up on the new season's results page on Monday.
Duathlon start time change
(22/11/12)
Please note that the start time for the duathlon on Saturday will be 9:30 and not 9:00 as previously advised on this website. Please sign on from 9:00am.
Duathlon on Saturday
(21/11/12)
The winter duathlon series kicks off this Saturday morning at Les Quennevais. Please sign on at 9:00am and have bikes racked etc ready to start at 9:30am.
Planned distances are:
- 1000m run, 3km cycle, 1500m run (under 10/up to Year 5)
- 1500m run, 4.5km cycle, 1500m run (10 and over/Year 6 and over)
Training
(21/11/12)
Well done to everyone on a good run session tonight. At the current time the focus is really on building a good base fitness as well as working on technique. The big guys had their first long run tonight, covering around 4 miles at a very steady pace. Getting in a few of these long steady runs will really help build up fitness onto which we will build strength in the new year.
Weekend round-up
(19/11/12)
Thank you to all athletes who came along to Jacksons on Saturday afternoon to launch the new sponsorship from Jacksons. You all looked great and hopefully there will be some nice pictures to be used in the press release.
As always, there was lots of other sporting activity on this weekend. Before the Jacksons event we had race 3 in the Advisa junior cross country series. Category wins again for Adele Maher and Jack Kennedy, whilst William Brown and Sam Maher treated us to a fantastic race and photo finish with each the deserving winner of their separate age categories. Fantastic runs on the day also from Rosie McManus and Ollie Turner.
After a very damp and muddy run on Saturday, Sunday's JCAYA mountain bike race took place in lovely weather, though the ground remained very muddy and difficult. Luke Holmes was beaten for the first time this year in the under 6 race, but 2nd place was enough to win him the series with a race to spare. Amy Lutz won her event and also secured the series win whilst older brother Jack and Adele Maher also took wins which keep them in contention for the series going into the final round.

New sponsor launch event
(14/11/12)
As was already announced here, Jacksons have agreed to a two year sponsorship deal with the Junior Triathlon Club. To help launch the new sponsorship arrangement in the press we have arranged for a photo to be taken at Jacksons Garage in St Peter at 3pm on Saturday 17th November. For those of you doing the cross country race at St Ouen's Manor on Saturday this hopefully shouldn't be too inconvenient as it is not too far to go after the race.
Every junior athlete is welcome, it would be great to show support for our new sponsors and have a large turnout. If possible could you please bring a plain white t-shirt and your best smiles so that we all look good in the photo.
MTB event venue change
(14/11/12)For anyone doing the JCAYA mountain bike race on Sunday please note the change of time and venue from that originally advertised. Details of the new venue can be found
here, sign on at 1:30 for 2:00 first race start.
More great race results
(07/11/12)The latest mountain bike results (race 4) can be found at
this link. Individual race wins for Luke Holmes, Aimee Lutz, Luc Mon Petit Le Brun and, for the first time in the current series, Adele Maher.
There was more racing today with the first of the two annual Jersey Schools Open Cross Country races at Les Quennevais for students in Year 5 and Year 6. As always there was some fantastic racing in four very large fields. Triathlon club interest, as always, was towards the front of the pack with Luke Killian (Year 5), Adele Maher (Year 6) and Jack Kennedy (Year 6) getting their hands on three of the four individual trophies. Well done to them and to everyone who took part today.
Training and racing
(01/11/12)Training resumed for the first dark and damp Wednesday night session of the year last night as we begin a period focussed on run technique. A surprisingly good turnout of 11 athletes, despite it being school holidays and Hallowe'en, got back to basics with some drill work.
Meanwhile the winter cross country and mountain bike racing continues last weekend with a cross country race at Mielle de Morville and the JCAYA mountain bike series at Val de la Mare.
A record entry of 94 runners ran in the Advisa cross country races on Saturday with several junior triathletes making appearances at the front. Expect to see some extra enthusiasm from Lily Scott at training this month as she suffered her first defeat of the year coming second in the girls 8 and under race. Adele Maher and Jack Kennedy, meanwhile, continued their domination of the 10 and under age group both taking their second win of the series. In fact all three medals in the boys race went to young triathletes with Luke Killian and Dougie Brown filling the other podium spots. William Brown ran to a dominant victory in the boys 12 and under age group whilst Ollie Turner made the most of Sam Maher's absence through injury to take victory in the oldest age group.
In the mountain biking Luke Holmes kept up his 100% record in the under 6 age group, but was pushed much harder after a poor start saw him having to pass around 20 riders during the race. Jack Lutz and Luc Mon Petit Le Brun took the first two places in the boys under 12 race with Adele Maher also getting a second place finish in the girls' race. In the under 10 boys' race Malo Mon Petit Le Brun took 2nd place.
'Performer of the weekend' has to go to recently crowned club champion Jack Kennedy who finished Sunday's mountain bike race in fourth place despite a puncture after winning his cross country race on Saturday and also picking up a gold medal at the AIB Tigers swimming meet for boys 11 & under 50 Backstroke.
Mountain bike racing continues this Sunday at St Ouen's Mill
at a new start time of 2pm, sign on at 1:30. Run training continues on Wednesday evening with a bigger turnout expected as everyone returns to school after the holidays - remember reflective vests!
Cross country results link Cycling results link Swimming results linkTraining resumes on Wednesday
(30/10/12)Training for the 2013 triathlon year starts again tomorrow (Wednesday) at 5:30 from the first shelter at the start of the bike path on Victoria Avenue (opposite West Park). Please be there and
ready to run by 5.30. Please also remember that you must have a reflective vest or jacket to wear as it will be dark.
New Junior Triathlon Sponsor
(27/10/12) We are delighted to announce that from next week we have a new sponsor supporting junior triathlon in Jersey. After several years of fantastic support from Fairbairn Private Bank we will now be supported by Jacksons. The current sponsorship agreement will support us for an initial period of 2 years and hopefully for many years beyond. As well as supporting our existing programme Jacksons are keen to help us expand. Look out for some changes over the next year.
2012 Junior Awards Evening
(24/10/12)
Large numbers of junior triathletes, parents and coaches gathered at the St Helier Yacht Club this evening for the annual presentation of prizes and review of the year. After a delicious hot buffet Dave Holmes welcomed athletes and guests and gave an overview of the year.
The main Michael Lucas award for 2012 was presented to two very hard working and deserving young athletes Jack Kennedy and Lily Scott. Along with this trophy Jack and Lily also received a cheque from John Falle, a close friend of Michael Lucas, to help them with the ongoing costs of their training and racing.
Next up was the Fairbairn Award for the most improved athlete which was presented by Cameron Walker from the sponsors. This year's winner was Peter Holmes who has worked hard over his second year with the club and made good progression.
The last of the main awards is the Halksworth trophy for most outstanding race performance. The trophy was presented along with a cheque by coach, professional triathlete and Ironman UK 2012 winner Dan Halksworth. The recipient was Ollie Turner for his fantastic win at the Eton Triathlon in June.
Luke Killian, Lily Scott, Sam Maher, Adele Maher, Dan Heaven and Catherine Billington were presented with prizes for winning their respective categories at the Main Event Triathlon in September.
Finally some spot prizes, kindly donated by Dan Halksworth, were awarded to junior athletes present.

JCAYA Grass Track series
(24/10/12)In addition to the usual Mountain Bike Series the
JCAYA is also running a grass track criterium series. The races are for mountain bikes but are much flatter and less technically demanding than the mountain bike series races. The events are organised by divisions of ability rather than age groups which could give a chance to a wider range of riders to be in with a chance of winning. The first race took place on Sunday and the
results indicate a good turnout from junior triathletes including the top 4 in the highest division.
