Weekend's results
(17/10/12)Well done to everyone taking part in a variety of events over the weekend.
The first in the Advisa cross country series took place on Saturday with several victories from junior triathletes. Lily Scott carried on where she left off at the end of last season, but this time she was pushed to the line and had to sprint for the victory. Jack Kennedy and Adele Maher both took commanding victories in the 9-10 age group whilst Rosie McManus and Aimee Hugh had a sprint finish in second and third. In the older age groups William Brown and Sam Maher took the victories - Maher also, unusually, having to sprint to hold onto the lead over the line.
At the JCAYA autumn mountain bike series Jack Lutz led the Under 12 boys race from start to finish. Luke Holmes had to contend with a field of almost 30 riders in the under 6 event but dominated once again for his second series victory.

Summer's gone
(28/9/12) That's all folks. Last night was the last open water swim of the year and we had a very nice night for it. Despite the high winds of recent days the water was lovely and flat and, of course, pleasantly warm (the air temperature less so!). So the wetsuits can be given a rinse and hung up in the back of the wardrobe (unless it's now too small in which case please consider advertising it
for sale here so that another athlete can make use of it).
No more club training until Wednesday 31st October at which time we return to run training from 5.30pm at West Park (first hut). In the meantime we will have the junior triathlon annual
awards evening on Wednesday 24th October (details will be confirmed here).
For anyone who just can't stand the thought of 4 weeks without training the JCAYA mountain bike series starts up this Sunday afternoon at Vale De La Mare (see the
JCAYA website for details). If that still isn't enough look out for the Advisa junior cross country series which is likely to kick off in late October, details will be published here as soon as they are available.

Dan Heaven at Portland Aquathlon (17/7/12)
The South West Series travelled to Portland for the Open Water Sea Swim Aquathlon. This race was the culmination of an exciting series for triathletes competing in the in the South West Region. Among them was Daniel Heaven from the Jersey Junior Triathlon Club.
The 750-metre open water sea swim proved challenging with tide and winds adding to the difficulty for the competitors. The 5km run was out and around the heliport enjoying great views of the Olympic Sailing Centre.
In an exciting race Daniel finished third benefiting from a confident swim, quick transition and strong run. Daniel said ‘it was a tough swim but I was really pleased with my run and managed to move up the field, I’m happy to have come third’.
The points awarded for this and previous races mean that Daniel has finished fourth overall for his age group in his first season competing in South West Series.
Daniel would like to thank everyone who has supported him to compete in the series this year, especially the Jersey Junior Triathlon Club sponsors Fairbairn Private Bank.
Daniel Heaven finishing the Blenheim Triathlon, part of the British Triathlon Super Series, earlier in the year.
Open water aquathlon - results
(16/7/12)
The sun finally shone for us this year, just in time for the first open water race of the summer, an open water Aquathlon at St Catherine. Athletes were all set off together but were taking part in three different race distances. First out of the water after 100m (one lap) of swimming was a group of three; Luke Killian, Will Atkinson and Lily Scott. After an incredibly close run Luke just pipped Will to finish first, with Lily holding on to third place overall and first female.
In the middle group strong swimmer Archie Swain led out of the water after 200m (2 laps) as expected, but he was unable to put too much clear water over Peter Holmes who quickly established a lead on the run to take the win in that category. Adele Maher had a solid swim and a typically fast run to take second place overall and first female.
The all male entry in the oldest category had to contend with a 400m (4 lap) swim. This allowed strong swimmer Ollie Turner to establish a solid lead of more than a minute over Sam Maher and the other chasers. With Sam only able to complete one lap of the 2 mile run Ollie was left to complete a comfortable victory over Joe Hugh who ran himself into second place ahead of Remi Hidrio.
Thanks as always to all of the helpers, timekeepers, marshalls, parents etc for their efforts in putting on another great race for our junior athletes.
Full results are on the results page.
Aquathlon race distances
(9/7/12)
The next junior race on the calendar is an open-water aquathlon at St Catherine's this Saturday, 14th July starting at 17:00. Please register at 16:30 to give yourself plenty of time to get your kit set out in transition and so that we can all get into the water together for a quick 'warm-up' before the race starts.
There will be three race distances. The distances are set based on age guidelines but you can complete a different distance if you wish (you should check with the a coach before signing in if you want to move up a distance).
- Race 1: 100m swim, 1600m run (age guide up to 10)
- Race 2: 200m swim, 1600m run (age guide 11-12)
- Race 3: 400m swim, 3200m run (age guide 13+)
Your last opportunity to practice a quick swim to run transition will be at training on thursday, so think about bringing actual race kit (elastic laces, talc for shoes etc) if you can.
Race opportunity for Youths on Saturday (5/7/12)We have been offered the opportunity for athletes in the Youth age group (age 15-16 on 31 December 2012) to take part in a cut down version of the senior triathlon this Saturday 7th July. Distances will be 400m/12.5km/5km. The race starts at 6:30pm so please sign on from 5:30.
Parents of Youth athletes will be required to complete the permission form and return it to Simon Roderick in order for their child to take part.
Race details are on the
main club website.
The smoothest swimming technique in the world? (22/6/12)Full Eton report and a cross country photo (13/6/12)The full coach's report from Eton is now available on this link.
Andy Du Val kindly sent me the picture below which shows 2012 Advisa cross country champions Sam Maher, Isaac Du Val and Lily Scott showing off their impressive silverware at the prizegiving at Kempt Tower recently.
Results from Eton Super Sprints
(10/6/12)More results (provisional from the
Human Race website) from Jersey athletes racing away at the Eton Super Sprints events today.
In a field of over 160 athletes in the Tristar 1 category (age 9-10) Jack Kennedy (pictured below) finished an excellent 14th boy. In the same race Jersey triathlon club was represented by the two Aimees: Aimee Hugh finishing 13th Girl and Aimee Lutz 21st.
In the next age group up Jack Lutz and Adele Maher had a field of almost 200 to race against over slightly longer distances, Jack 7th boy to finish and Adele finishing as the 42nd girl, showing just how tough and competitive this event is.
The Tristar 3 category was split into the (elite) drafting wave and a second non-drafting event. Jersey triathletes dominated the non-drafting race taking two podium spots with Ollie Turner in 1st and Sam Maher in 3rd place. Sam just missed out on 2nd place in a tight finish after posting the fastest run of all in this category of 9:45 (over a minute quicker than the second fastest run) but finishing just 1 second behind the next athlete. Joe Hugh ended the event as 8th boy.
In the Youth category Charlotte Turner finished 8th girl with a typically fast bike split which was only bettered by two other girls.
All of the above results are provisional - a full coach's report will follow as soon as it is available.
Off-island racing
(3/6/12)
Results just in from half-term holidaymakers Joseph and Peter Holmes who took part in the Borders Triathlon Club Youth Aquathon in Selkirk, Scotland during the first weekend of their trip to the UK. Joseph led the Tristar Start wave out of the 50m pool swim, briefly lost his lead during transition but regained it on the 600m run to take victory in his age group. Peter, in the Tristar 2 Age Group, was 4th out of the pool after 250m of swimming and set off on his 2km run, quickly overhauling the leading trio to build an unassailable lead of over 2 minutes by the finish.
Great results for the Holmes boys and a good sign that the standard of Jersey's young triathletes is something for some UK clubs to aspire to.
No training during half term
(30/5/12)Please note that due to a lack of coaches on the island during the half term week that there will be no junior triathlon club training on Thursday 7th June. Training resumes 14th June, 6pm at St Catherine's. Have a nice holiday.
Main event triathlon - online entry (29/5/12)For this year the Junior main event triathlon will take place the day before the Ogier triathlon main event in order to try to bring the juniors and senior sections together. The event takes place on Saturday 1st September from 8am at Bel Royal (sign on 7:15am). The juniors will also get a chance to use the chip timing system which is commonly used in major events. In order to set up the chip timing we need the juniors who will be racing to register in advance online through the same system used for the senior main event. Entries are now open and can be accessed
here.
Charity triathlon - another update
(29/5/12)I've had another call from Airtel-Vodafone about the charity triathlon in aid of Leukaemia and Lymphoma Research to say that they are likely to move the event back to September due to difficulties getting all of the support they need for the proposed date in July. I'll keep you updated when I have anything more concrete!
Cross country end of season event (28/5/12)The sun shone for the cross country end of season relay event and prizegiving. As always the field was packed with young triathletes including many of the main prizewinners. In the 7/8 year old category Luke Killian (not present on the day) won the boys' category whilst Lily Scot (pictured below) won the girls' overall title. Isaac Du Val picked up the boys 9/10 trophy and Sam Maher the 11/12 year boys'.
In the days' relay events Isaac Du Val and Dougie Brown featured in the winning boys' 9/10 age group team.
Eton and Charity triathlons
(25/5/12)Eton Junior Triathlon is fast approaching…Can all those who are travelling to this event please let Coach Andy know ASAP and could you also kindly attach a copy of your boat or plane tickets so that he can arrange subsidy payment for this trip.
Also please note that the Airtel-Vodafone charity triathlon originally shown as 7th July has been pushed back to 14th July. The organisers have apologised that this is a clash with our Aquathlon at St Catherines but they had no alternative date available to them.
Swimming....or not?
(17/5/12)Our first open water swimming session of the year didn't quite go to plan. With a stiff breeze and choppy conditions it wasn't suitable for getting in the water tonight. Fortunately the sun was shining and it was a lovely evening for a run out to the Lifeboat Station and back along the coastal path followed by some fast interval work on the breakwater.
Hopefully we will make it into the water next week!
Training
(14/5/12)A reminder in case you missed it that
JCAYA cycling starts on Wednesday this week and triathlon training moves to St Catherine's on Thursday evenings from 6pm (see
Training page for details).
Weekend results - home and away (11/5/12)Well done to Dan Heaven who travelled over to the UK at the weekend to take part in the Cotswold Super Sprint Triathlon, part of the Triathlon England South West Series. At just 12 degrees the swim was very cold for this time of year, Dan exited the water in 7th place overall (including older athletes) in a small group 30 seconds down on the leading swimmer. With a solid bike and run leg Dan made up several places and lost only one place to a senior athlete to eventually finish in 5th place overall and a fantastic third place in his category -
Full results.
Revised results from Saturday's aquathlon are now on the
results page.
Aquathlon results
(7/5/12)Provisional results for the Aquathlon on Saturday are now on the results page - thanks to Andy who I think captured the splits for these. I have a couple of queries on the under 10s race (race 2) so please bear with me as these may change if it turns out I've got any of the times the wrong way round - once I'm sure they're right I'll post the final version.
Training dates
(4/5/12)I now have confirmation of when training moves into summer mode as follows:
Wednesday 9th May (Liberation Day) will be the last run session at West Park.We know it's Liberation Day and schools are off but training will be on as normal. JCAYA cycling starts on Wednesday 16th May and from Thursday
17th May onwards we meet at St Catherine's at 6pm for swimming and run training starting every Thursday through the summer. During May we will spend very little time in the water as the athletes get used to the water again and while the sea starts to warm up - wetsuits are required.
The last Tuesday evening pool swimming session is on 22nd May with JLDSC. After that they will be going in the sea on Tuesday evenings but unlike your kind triathlon coaches JLDSC doesn't allow wetsuits!
Aquathlon on Saturday
(2/5/12)A reminder that the next race is on Saturday afternoon at Aquasplash. Hopefully the sun will keep shining and we won't have a repeat of last weekend's washout - details on the events page.
Latest race results
(29/4/12)Are now available in the
results section.
All washed out
(29/4/12)Despite the terrible overnight rain which carried on through the morning 18 junior athletes turned up for their first triathlon of 2012. However, the conditions were not safe for cycle racing and the announcement that the race would revert to an aquathlon (swim/run) was greeted with a mixed reaction (depending on relative cycle ability).
As there was sufficient pool space and time the race was split into three categories with athletes given a choice as to which distance they chose to complete:
(1) 100m swim and 1.5km run
(2) 200m swim and 3km run
(3) 400m swim and 3km run
In race 1 Lily Scott led the boys out of the pool and went on to record the fastest run in the category too for a comfortable victory over Joseph Holmes in second.
In race 2 fast swimming Archie Swain led out of the water with Adele Maher and Jack Lutz not too far back and group containing Jack Kennedy, amongst others, around 30 seconds behind the leader. Jack Lutz quickly took control on the run whilst Jack Kennedy made up several places with a strong run to second place. Adele Maher held on for third place and the highest placed female athlete.
In the final event Dan Heaven led Ollie Turner out of the water. Third placed Sam Maher had a typically strong run to overhaul Ollie but despite setting the fastest run split he was still unable to catch Dan and had to settle for second place.
Full results and report will be posted shortly.
It's triathlon time!
(25/4/12)It's time to get the goggles and trunks ready for the first junior triathlon of 2012 on Sunday. Racing will start at 9am, sign on from 8:30am -
please note that if you are not registered and ready to swim by 9am you won't be able to race. Race distances will be as follows (provisional, we may add a third category if there is a large enough spread of ages/ability)
(A) Swim 100m, Cycle 3km, Run 1.5km
(B) Swim 200m, Cycle 4.5km, Run 1.5km
The guidelines for race (A) are under 10 year olds and for race (B) 10 and overs. However, athletes may choose to race in the other category if it is more suitable for their ability (subject to the organiser's discretion).
Duathlon report
(3/4/12)A reminder that the next race is on Saturday afternoon at Aquasplash. Hopefully the sun will keep shining and we won't have a repeat of last weekend's washout - details on the
events page.
Triathlon dates - amendment
(2/4/12)Please note that for reasons outside of our control the first triathlon previously scheduled for 21st April will not be able to go ahead on that day. We are working on an alternative event and will update the Events page as soon as this is booked. Please keep an eye out on this news page for the latest information.
Duathlon results
(31/3/12)Race results are now available on the results page. Well done to everyone who took part, in particular Rachelle Flambard who took part for the first time and as a result won the over 10 girls' race.
Duathlon on Saturday
(29/3/12)The final duathlon of the winter series takes place on Saturday morning (31 March) at Les Quennevais, sign on at 9am for a prompt 9.30am start. Distances will be as follows:
10 and overs: Run 1.5km (1 lap), Cycle 6km (4 laps), Run 1.5km (1 lap)
Under 10s: Run 1km (part lap), Cycle 4.5km (3 laps), Run 1.5km (1 lap)
Details of the triathlon and aquathlon dates can now be found in the Events section.
Kit 4 Club tokens - reminder
(27/3/12)If anyone has any more JEP Kit 4 Club tokens which they have collected for the triathlon club could they please bring them along to training tomorrow evening and hand to one of the coaches.
Easter holiday triathlon training camps (24/3/12)Please see the
Training page for details of these training camps during the Easter holidays.
Years 5 & 6 cross country inter-insular (24/3/12)Well done to the junior athletes who took part in the primary schools' inter-insular cross country against Guernsey this morning. The 24 strong Jersey team included 8 junior triathletes, listed from left to right in the photo below: Jack Kennedy, Peter Holmes, Aimee Hugh, Adele Maher, Rosie McManus, Isaac du Val, Jennifer Cullen and Dougie Brown.
All of the athletes did their island proud but in the end the Guernsey team took overall victory by just a single point. Individual performances to note were Adele Maher who took 2nd place in the Year 5 girls' race and Jack Kennedy and Peter Holmes who finished 2nd and 3rd in the Year 5 boys' event.
Summer race calendar
(22/3/12)The race report from Duathlon 6 is now available on the
Results page.
Spring/Summer training
(20/3/12)Please note that
run training will be on as normal over the school holidays but there will be
no swim training for those two weeks.
As the clocks will be going forward this weekend we can finally look forward to long light evenings which means the reflective clothing can be stored away until the autumn - hooray.
It's also getting closer to that time of year when we switch to swim training at St Catherine's. The date of the switch is dictated by the JCAYA cycling calendar and at present it looks like the first St Catherine's night will be 17th May (we will wait to see what the water temperature is like before deciding whether to have a short swim or just run on the first couple of weeks). Watch this space (and the training page) for confirmation nearer the time.
Also keep an eye on the website in the coming days as the summer race calendar is due to be published very soon.
Swimarathon
(12/3/12)Twenty Four Fairbairn Junior Triatheletes took part in the annual Swimarathon on Saturday morning raising £400 for the Lions Club of Jersey in the process.
Three teams were entered this year ably Captained by Della Roderick, Dilly Percival and Andy Kemp. The Teams (team Red, White & Black) aged from 6 to 16 years old were well matched and completed 69, 70 & 70 laps, more than some of the more senior teams who were competing alongside them.
Well done to you all.
Cross country Inter Insular
(5/3/12)Several junior triathletes were included in the Jersey team running against Guernsey on Saturday. The picture below shows the boys' u13 Jersey contingent which includes William Brown, Joe Hugh, Ollie Turner, Sam Maher and Jack Lutz. In that event Sam Maher missed out on individual victory by 6 seconds from Guernsey's Alex Rowe, son of 2006 Commonwealth Games triathlete Alan Rowe. The boys took the team victory though.
Meanwhile in the girls' u13 event Jennifer Cullen was part of another victorious Jersey team.
Full results can be found
here. Well done to all of you!
Triathlon kit and bikes
(3/3/12)As parents of young triathletes we all appreciate that there are a lot of costs involved in triathlon training and racing, particularly when children refuse to stop growing. The triathlon club wants to help to the extent it can and a few years ago obtained some bikes which can be loaned out to juniors to use in training and racing. Unfortunately the club can't provide for everyone but importantly the bikes can't be allocated if we don't know that you need them (though the coaches try to be pro-active in identifying when children are too big for their bikes). In order to facilitate parents we intend to add a For Sale, Wanted and Swap-Shop section to the website. Here we can list any triathlon kit and bikes that you are looking for or have available to sell or swap to keep costs down.
If you have anything you would like to add please send me the text you would like me to put in (including your contact details). If you want to add a picture please feel free.
Send requests to webmaster@juniorjerseytri.com (please also let me know when it can be delisted too).
Another thing to consider is looking or listing on the
JCAYA For Sale and Wanted list.
Kit 4 Clubs reminder
(28/2/12)The Kit 4 Clubs competition started this week in the JEP. Please remember to cut out the tokens and hand them to one of the coaches at training. The club has some exciting plans if it can get hold of one of the awards.
PS: I heard a rumour that head coach Andy won't be making you run up and down hills at training tomorrow for the first time in weeks, so make sure you're there and don't miss out ;-)
Senior duathlon
(27/2/12)Two junior athletes took part in the latest senior Duathlon which took place at Queen's Valley Reservoir on Sunday. Dan Heaven and Nanneke Boxall completed a slightly shorter first run than the seniors of 3km around the reservoir, followed by a two lap 14km cycle course and finishing with the same 3km run as the seniors.
Although there was no direct competition over the same distance, both athletes performed strongly showing good progress as they move up to compete at a higher level over these longer distance events.
Results can be found
here.
Duathlon photos
(25/2/12)Thanks to Sarah @ H6 Photography there are some photos available to view from today's race. For those who weren't there
check out just how foggy it was!Duathlon results
(25/2/12)A very foggy course greeted us this morning for the 5th in a long winter Duathlon series. Category winners were Adele Maher and Sam Maher in the 10 and overs and Lily Scott and Jack Kennedy in the under 10s.
Full results are now available under the
results tab, the press report will appear there shortly.
Particularly well done to all of those who followed up this morning's exertions with a cross country race at Beauport in the afternoon, fantastic effort. Special mention to Sam Maher and Jack Kennedy who made it two wins in a single day!
The 6th and final Duathlon of the season takes place on Saturday 31 March 2012 at Les Quennevais at 9:30am. Distances will be the same as today's race.
Duathlon tomorrow
(24/2/12)A reminder that our next duathlon is tomorrow (Saturday 25 February) at Les Quennevais, sign on at 9am for a
prompt 9.30am start. Distances will be as follows:
10 and overs: Run 1.5km (1 lap), Cycle 6km (4 laps), Run 1.5km (1 lap)
Under 10s: Run 1km (part lap), Cycle 4.5km (3 laps), Run 1.5km (1 lap)
Schools cross country
(22/2/12)Today saw a large number young athletes take part in the annual schools cross-country championships at Les Quennevais for Year 5 and Year 6 students. Once again we had a number of top performances from triathlon club regulars with eight selected to run in the match against Guernsey in March.
In the Year 5 girls race Adele Maher controlled events for a relatively comfortable win. Rosie McManus finished third to stake her claim to run against Jersey with Aimee Hugh taking 5th spot.
In the Year 5 boys race Jack Kennedy took the win, but by a much smaller margin. Peter Holmes set a fierce pace which led to a very strung out field and only Jack was able to hold on. Jack made his move coming into the final straight to outsprint Peter for the victory. Dougie Brown finished 4th in a competitive event meaning that triathlon club regulars make up half of the Jersey team for both the boys and girls in this age group.
In the Year 6 girls race Jennifer Cullen, a recent addition to our triathlon group, took sixth place, the last qualifying spot. Meanwhile Isaac Du Val ran strongly in the older boys' race, pushing the eventual winner all the way to the line finishing an eventual 2nd. Consolation for Isaac came in the form of the overall team victory for his VCP team.
The match against Guernsey takes place on Saturday 24th March at St Ouen's Manor.
Kit 4 Clubs
(18/2/12)The JEP is launching a local sports funding initiative from 27th February which the triathlon club will be registering with. Please look out for tokens in the JEP each day and hand them in to one of the coaches at training or duathlon races. The more tokens we collect the better chance we have of winning a share of £10,000 to help with club and athlete expenses.
Half term and the next race
(9/2/12)A reminder that Wednesday evening
run training is on as usual next week during the school half term. For those not jetting off somewhere warmer we will see you as usual, ready to run at 5:30 and get that extra training session over those on holiday before the duathlon 10 days later.
The next duathlon takes place on Saturday 25 February at Les Quennevais, sign on at 9am for a 9.30am start. Please note the need to arrive in plenty of time to register and get your bike and kit into transition. We always try to start promptly to avoid junior athletes having to hang around getting cold. Distances will be as follows:
10 and overs: Run 1.5km (1 lap), Cycle 6km (4 laps), Run 1.5km
Under 10s: Run 1km (part lap), Cycle 4.5km (3 laps), Run 1.5km (1 lap)
A busy weekend of junior sport
(7/2/12)There was no duathlon on last weekend but with a junior cross-country race on Saturday and JCAYA mountain bike event on Sunday most of our juniors were kept busy.
As we have come to expect the junior triathletes dominated the cross-country event with victories in all but one category. In the 7-8 years categories Lily Scott took victory in the girls event whilst Luke Killian kept up his 100% win record for the boys. Adele Maher took another victory in the girls 9-10 years with Rosie McManus in third whilst in the boys race it was a very tight three way battle between three junior triathletes with Jack Kennedy taking a close win from Peter Holmes in second and Dougie Brown in third. In the 11-12 year old boys it was another clean sweep on the podium with Sam Maher winning from William Brown and Joe Hugh.
By my calculation 11 of the 18 medals went to athletes who train regularly on our wednesday night runs. It shows how much the hard work pays off.
Not quite the same level of dominance in mountain biking, but overall wins came from Luke Holmes, Jack Lutz and Sam Maher in the u6, u12 and u13 events.
Well done to all those who took part. Results for the Cross Country are
here and for the Mountain Biking

Senior duathlon eventThree of our junior athletes, Charlotte Turner, Dan Heaven and Charlotte Billington, elected to race in the first race of the senior duathlon series last weekend rather than the junior race. For these "older" athletes this is a great way to experience competition in the larger senior field. The race involved a 5km run followed by an 17km cycle.
Dan finished in 19th position (out of 48 finishers), Catherine was 5th in the ladies race and Charlotte came in 45th overall. Results can be found
here.
Duathlon 4Well done to all of the junior athletes who took part in this morning's duathlon. As a result of the cold weather conditions the cycle distance was shortened slightly. Particularly well done to Rosie who, having celebrated her 10th birthday just a few days ago, now has to do the longer distance against the big guys - great effort to finish on a very cold morning.
The race results are now online here. A full race report will be added soon.
The next race in the series is scheduled for Saturday 25th February.
Duathlon race distancesPlease note that we are reviewing the race distances previously published on the race poster and have made changes to the race this Saturday to ensure the events are aimed at the right level for the ages and ability of our athletes and the current point in the training plan. The distances we propose for Saturday are now as follows (subject to change due to weather conditions):
10 and overs: Run 1.5km (1 lap), Cycle 6km (4 laps), Run 1.5km
Under 10s: Run 1km (part lap), Cycle 4.5km (3 laps), Run 1.5km (1 lap)
Kids cross country race at Kempt TowerThe junior cross country race on Saturday at Kemp Tower was great for junior triathletes. The juniors worked really hard and all had great performances.
Lily Scott worked hard to take second place right at the end and Luke Killian was streams ahead to keep up his 100% record in the youngest age group. Also, Jack McKenna who did the cross country for the first time on Saturday came 3rd!
Peter Holmes had a great run to stay with Dougie Brown but just couldn’t quite catch him to take second, with Jack Kennedy working hard to pick up the bronze medal and keep all of the boys medals in the hands of triathlon regulars.
Amy & Rosie also worked very hard in their race, which was rather tough. Their age group had two laps, each lap being just over ¾ of a mile. In that group Adele Maher picked up another medal in second place behind Florence Gothard.
Joe Hugh had an absolute storming run taking second place from William Brown – Joe was in third going onto the last lap and had to work really hard to keep pass William and keep Sam Maher in his sight. This age group had 3 laps to do.
I have to say all the junior athletes were very enthusiastic and really, really tried hard – the training is obviously working! What was really nice, in each of the age groups, for the junior tri boys & girls there was at least two of them that went up for the medals, I was very proud of you all!

(Click here for results)Eton SuperTri Children's open water triathlon - 9th June 2012Fairbairn Jersey junior Triathlon would like as many of its members as possible to experience an event off island in 2012. We took 11 athletes to this event last year and had some fantastic performances. Club members will receive some financial support (between £30-£50 dependant on numbers) towards the trip but more importantly an unmissable opportunity to race with 1000 other juniors from across the country.
The race takes place at Dorney Lake, Eton, further details can be found at
humanrace.co.uk.
Even better is that it falls at the end of 1/2 term so great excuse to get away for few days and be back in time school on June 11th. Please let Andy Kemp (
coach@juniorjerseytri.com) know if you are going as he will need a copy of your boat/plane tickets so that a claim can be processed.

9am sign on for 9.30am start.2011 Junior Presentation EveningThis years awards were held at St Helier Yacht Club on a beautiful evening overlooking the harbour. The weather man really had turned on a beautiful evening for the Juniors and family members that turned up.
This year it was the first time that an extra trophy was available. Over the past two years we have presented the Michael Lucas memorial trophy given to two athletes boy and girl that have shone throughout the year. Along with the trophy a cheque from Mr Falle one of Michael's close friends is also awarded in the hope that they will spend the money wisely on something that they can use over the next coming seasons to see them progress further in triathlon.
This years Michael Lucas award was given to Dan Heaven and Adele Maher. We really do feel that both of these athletes have shone throughout the year in, duathlons, aquathons and triathlons. Not just in race results but they have both shown great qualities in training and as athletes. We hope this inspires them to greater goals over this coming season.
The next award was kindly donated by Fairbairn Private Bank who have been our sponsor over this last year. This award went to the athlete we thought had shown the most improvement over the season. This was difficult as so many of the juniors have progressed whether it being in the pool, cycle track or run track but the athlete we chose had shown great improvements in all three disciplines and that is why this years award was won by Luke Killian. He also receiced part of the cheque given to us by Mr Falle.
Our third trophy of the evening was presented to us by the Halksworth Family for the 'most outstanding race'. We felt that this award was deservedly won by Jack Kennedy as he has not won but has shown great determination in all of his races and raced 100% to his potential. We felt that this quality was what we wanted to see from many of the other juniors hoping to win next year.
We would Like to say a big thank you to the St Helier Yacht Club for hosting such a lovely evening. John Falle for again coming in to present the awards and Fairbairn Private Bank for sponsoring the Junior section over the last year, hopefully we can keep them involved so that the junior section can continue to prosper.
